The Ist grade pupils highly en-

Little Miss Edna and J. Hamby
Barton, Jr., are visiting their grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. George T.
’ Pursley, in Griffin.
Hon. and Mrs. Julian B. McCurry,
of Athens, were the guests here last
week-end of Mrs. A. G. McCurry and
Judge and Mrs. Walter L. Hodges.
A news item from Richmond, Va.,
in the daily papers tells of the elec
’ tion of officers of the junior class at
Union Theological Seminary. Prof.
Emmett B. McGukin, son of Mrs. R.
E. McGukin, of Hartwell, and former
member of the Hartwell High School
J faculty, was named a councilman of
the class. He entered Union Semi,
nary this fall. He is a graduate of
Davidson.
Messrs. T. W. Wilson and Fred
Vandiver were in Lavonia two days
this week “percolating” and “rang
(e)ing” (electrically speaking) for
the Georgia Railway and Power Com
pany.—Lavonia Times.
Mr. and Mrs. T. K. O’Bryant, of
Buffalo, Mo., have been visiting rela
tives and friends in the town and
county the past two weeks. Mrs.
O’ Bryant is a daughter of Mr. Robert
W. Massey, of Cross Roads. Many
friends are glad to see these former
citizens back in their home county
again.
Mr. Hugh A. Price, of the Geor
gia Railway & Power Co., was cir
culating among friends here last
week-end.
Mr. Jno. H. Cheatham, of Griffin,
president of the Hartwell Cotton
Mills, and a director of the Hartwell
Railway Co., was among the promi
nent business visitors here first of
the week. Mr. Cheatham’s many
friends are always glad to see him
“back home.”
The many friends of Mr. J. E.
M ann are glad to see him back at his
store after being on the sick list for
several weeks.
Mrs. W. I. Hailey spent last week
end in Atlanta as the guest of her
son, Dr. Wm. Howard Hailey, and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Tyrus Raymond
Cobb passed through Hartwell last
Friday en route to their home in
Augusta from points East. They
stopped a few moments to chat with
old friends here.
Dr. and Mrs. J. Henry Hailey have
moved into their beautiful new brick
home on west Howell street.

The Hartwell Glee Club will ap
pear on the night of December sth.
Genial Fred Linder does some
splendid work for the town and coun
-y by helping the tourists as they pass
through and those who stop over here
for a night on the Court House park.
A good word to these people, who are
loming through by the hundreds daily
now, will not only make them feel
good but be a boost for us. They all
trade here when stopping over and
some of them have been going over
this route for several years. Keep

for a visit. Mrs. Reeves has many
friends in Hartwell, who are always

tained recently at the home of Mrs.
Fay Adams with Mrs. Nimqui Smith
as joint hostess.

baskets of roses added to the attrac
tiveness of this lovely home. After
