Mr. A. C. Skelton was a business
visitor to Atlanta last Wednesday.

To Celebrate Silver Anniver»ary.
Invitations have been received by
Hartwell and Hart county friends of
Rev. and Mrs. Milo H. Massey to
the celebration of their 25th, the
silver wedding anniversary, on Sat
uday, November Bth, at the home in
Americus.
Rev. and Mrs. Massey were united
in marriage November 8, 1899, Mrs.
Massey being Miss Rozzie C. Lee,
before marriage.
For a number of years they lived
in Hartwell, Rev. Massey being the
beloved pastor of the Baptist church.
While it was not be possible for
us to attend, this splendid Christian
couple may rest assured that the folks
back in Hart are with them in spirit
on this joyous occasion.
The Sun joins all in wishing for
Bro. Massey and his good helpmeet
many, many more returns of the day.
Mr. J. H. Gulley, of Anderson, S.
C., was among the visitors here
Thursday. While in Hartwell he re
newed for The Sun.
—o —
It would not be necessary to say
a great many things if we only had
the grace of patience to wait awhile.
Two “Sun Rays” pages this week.
The P. T. A. will meet Wednesday,
Dec. 3rd, at 3:30 o’clock in the
music room at the Grammar School
building. An interesting program on
physical education is being arranged.
“Carriages without horses shall go,
and accidents fill the world with
woe.” This is what “old Mother
Shipton” prophesied in the 14th cen
tury. Three hundred years before
railroads and more than four hun
dred years before automobiles. Whe
ther this old prophet referred to rail
ways or automobiles or both we will
leave the wise to say. Anyway, the
time is now on when the world is
filled with woe and the race is be
tween the railways and the autos to
see which can pass at a crossing first.
Invariably, the occupants of auto*
get the worst of the race. The rail
ways try, in every possible way, to
get the riders in autos to not take
chances, but they will, only to demon
strate the Biblical statement that “He
that being often reproved hardeneth
his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed
and that without remedy.” Wouldn’t
it be better to stop and take the safe
view of any proposition that has tw*
sides?
Speaking of Tourists.
Tourists passing through are often
misled by our people who wish to
give them aid and be pice to them.
In directing them south don’t tell
them to take the left and cross the
railroad: they can turn to the left
several times and cross the track be
fore getting to the forks of the two
roads out west Howell street. Tell
them to go several blocks out to the
crossing the track. We are glad to
note that the highway department
has just completed marking “Route
8” on the posts and put up a num
ber of signs in the city. This will
help very much. Many of the tourists
can’t understand, either, about Hart
well wanting them to camp on the
square; if you see a car hesitating,
tell them to drive in, showing them
how to get into the park. They
aren’t used to such hospitality, and
greatly appreciate the attitude of our
people.
—-o
The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Gar
land C. Hayes will be glad to learn
that their little baby daughter, Flor
ence Bartow, is improving, after
being ill for some time. Mrs. Hayes
and the little one returned last week
from Atlanta, where treatment had
been administered for the past two
weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Holland's
friends will be glad to know that both
their children are now well again
after their illness of the past month.
Be Thankful
The bounteous blessings from
God have been so richly bestowed
upon us in this section until this
should be a great Thanksgiving in
deed for all. Even in the midst of
our repining the beautiful Sunlight
of Health, Love and a much greater
proportion of prosperity have been
meted out to us than our general ex
pressions of thankfulness and hope
fulness would indicate.
I am not only thankful for those
things but likewise thankful for the
many opportunities for service which
I have had, not only in my official
work as a representative of the great
New York Life Insurance Company
in its liberal service to the people
it has been our privilege to serve but
also for those opportunities I
had to try to do a little part for the
general good and progress of for
ward movements in our county and
section.
Service is the thing the New York
Life Insurance Company has to offer
and I as its designated representa
tive here desire to be a living example
of the liberality and progressive atti
tude the Company always takes.
I am thankful for the agricultural
and educational progress which are
being made in this county and sec
tion and for the liberal backing these
movements receive from the Kiwanis
Club, the American Legion, the P.
T. A’s., the 'Roman’s Club, the D.
A. R’s. the I renau Club, the U. D.
C’s. and every other progressive or
ganization, civic or otherwise, which
lend them their commendable sup
port.
May this be a great Thanksgiving
occasion to all of our people.
W. S. LONG, Agent.
