Stop Night Coughing
This Simple Way
Teople who have persistent, an
*oying coughing spells at night, ana
"wvho through loss of valuable sleep
are weakening their systems and
laying themselves open to dangerous
Infections, can stop their distressing
trouble promptly by a very simple
treatment. Hundreds who have
•hardly been able to rest at all for
coughing, have gotten their full
night’s sleep the very first time they,
tried it.
The treatment is based on a re
markable prescription known as Dr.
King's New Discovery for Coughs.
Jou simply take a teaspoonful at
night before retiring and hold it in
?our throat for 15 or 20 seconds be
ore swallowing it, without follow
ing with water. The prescription
has a double action. It not only
soothes and heals soreness and irri
tation, but it quickly loosens and
removes the phlegm and congestion
.which are the direct came of the
coughing. The result Is that you
usually sleep as soundly as a babe
the very first night, and the entire
cough condition goes in a very short
time.
The prescription is highly recom
mended for coughs, chest colds,
hoarseness and bronchitis, and is
wonderful for children's coughs and
hpasmodlc croup—no harmful drugs.
too, as the dose is only
one teaspoonful. It is on sale at all

“If Your Pain Is There,
What You Need Is a Good
Tonic For the Kidneys’’
The kidneys are the scavengers and
they work day and night in separat
ing and the poisons from the blood.
Their signals of distress are easily
recognized and include such symp
toms as lumbago, backache, depres
sions, drowsiness, irritability, head
aches, dizziness, rheumatic twinges,
dropsy.
People are realizing more and more
every day that the kidneys, just as
do the bowels, need to be flushed
occasionally. The kidneys are an
eliminative organ and are constantly
-working, separating the poisons
from the blood. Under this con
tinual and perpetual action they are
apt to congest, and then . trouble
starts. Uric acid backs up into the
system, causing rheumatism, neural
gia, dropsy and many other serious
disturbances. It means that you are
a victim of uric acid poisoning. Then
ask your druggist for Anuric (anti

Interesting Letter Written In
August of The Year 1781
Below is a copy of a letter writ
ten by Mr. Edward Butler, grand
father of Mrs. Julian B. McCurry to
his brother-in-law during the Revolu
tionary War:
Hanover, 13th Aug. 1781.
Mr. John Shackelford, Halifax.
Dear Sir: —This under the blessing
of Divine Providence leaves us in
good health. Hoping to find you and
yours enjoying the same valuable
blessing. We have gone • through
many scenes of distress since you
left my house. I think the day you
left our oldest son was taken with a
violent flux which the Sunday morn
ing week after, landed him in Eternr
ity. No sooner had we closed his
eyes, but like the messengers of Jo
bone misfortune after another came,
we were informed the British were
on their march and our army re
treating rapidly before them. This
however we hoped was only news at
a distance expecting to hear of the
enemy’s being at Richmond before
they came into this county. No cer
tain intelligence could we get about
them till Tuesday morning the 29th
of May. I was informed they were
at Newcastle having never halted
from the time they left Bottoms
Bridges till they got to Black Harry’s.
Their taking possession of Newcastle
and Hanover Town, Tarlton project
ed his rout to Hanover Courthouse.
A few of which came as high as the
Long Lane. This was all performed
iby ten o’clock Tuesday morning.
You will guess the confusion. We
were then in men, women and chil
dren flying before them, leaving the
roads took shelter in the woods near
my fence. This was the first that
: put me in the notion of leaving home
which we did by 12 o’clock. We had
sent one load of things out of the
way and carried off a few others
with us. Everything else was carried
off by them, of clothes or bed clothes.
One bed emptied and tick carried off
and three others ripped and left in
the house. Our negroes however
did more than I could have expected
some of which they found but came
off vastly better than I could have
expected. When we returned home
however what we lost could not be
replaced for sixty thousand weight
of tobacco. I had two fellows Ben
and Lew that went off with them
but Lew returned in three weeks
after, safe without small pox. My
finding things better at home than
expected. I was perfectly well satis
fied and am now as well contented
as if I had lost nothing. My gray
mare and black horse they carried off
but no cattle and but few lost. We,
when we left home got up to the
place where Mrs. Snyder lived ex
pecting the enemy would more on to
Frederickburg but Wednesday morn
ing Tarlton moved up to John Wing
| field and took post between his fence
and mine. Saman with the Queeas
Ranger took post at South Anna
bridge and Cornwallis took his head
quarters at the Courthouse. Thurs
day morning finding ourselves sur
rounded on all sides some of our
company went in and got leave to
return home with their families. My
wife and children agreed to go home
with them and I set out for camp
Friday morning early. The army
marched again and I was in their
front till I got up to Louisa Court
house and then thought it was time
to halt and concluded to return home
thinking it in vain to go any further.
At my return found my second son
violent bad with the same disorder
but happily recovered. The neighbor
hood has suffered much but nothing
in comparison to what we might have
done. No more, but love to sister
and children. lam sir Y’s and c .
EDW. BUTLER.
I have kept clear of them am as
well off as some that stayed at
home.
