Some more rain, sterns as if the
ladies will be a little late getting
their gardens started. Very little in
gardens excepts young weeds, which
is proof some other things might be
growing as well.
According to some who claim to
know the boll weevil the weather so
far has been ideal for him, if that
be true then would.n’t this be the time
to reduce cotton acreage? It seems
from tests already made, cotton can
be grown almost an.ywhere, except on
the mountain peaks, or the hot sands
of Florida, and ho’v can we expect
anything in the future but plenty
of cotton for the world and lower
prices.
Mr. E. W. Harper., president of the
Epworth League at this place called
a working last Mondi iy to plant trees
and otherwise beaut ify the church
grounds. A fine move but prevented
by rain. Guess anotl ler day will be
named soon.
People keep moving don’t know
who they are nor w.here they are
going, just passing tl trough I sup
pose,

and dined with Mr. R. IL. Shiflet and
family.
Cokesbury and Montevideo played
their second game of basketball on
Montevideo grounds, last Friday
afternoon having played on Cokes
bury’s grounds the previous Friday.
Both teams are young in the business
but with practice expect them to
make it warm for some of the older
teams.
Mr. Bingham was here Monday
night in the interest of a garden
marketing truck, all present seemed
to approve of the proposition. A
committee was appointed to take the
matter further.
Rev. D. P. Johnstixn and family

Baptist Church
The pastor has reason to rejoice
and to be exceedingly glad from
every standpoint at present. The at
tendance at the mid-week prayer
services has been gradually growing
in the last few weeks without any
very great effort on the part of any
one in particular. We had about one
hundred and twenty-five last Wed
nesday evening. A number of new
faces were seen in the audience.
This is fine, indeed.
In like manner, the congregations
Sunday mornings and evenings have
been increasing of late. This is a
very encouraging sign. The increase
in the attendance of the evening hour
is worthy of special mention. This is
very gratifying to the pastor. We
sincerely hope that we may succeed
in making the evening services of
such power that our people will real
ize the very great loss to be sustained
when they stay away. The eighth
of the Ten Commandments. “Thou
shalt not steal,” is to be the text for
next Sunday evening.
The most joyous fact of all, how
ever, is the unanimous enthusiasm
with which all of our people greet
the new church project. The pastor
has never seen such a fine spirit evi
denced before in any community on
a great program such as our building
program. We .all realize the very
great need, and all seem to be anxi
ous to have a worthy part in the
building. The finest thing of all is
that every one seems to want to give
all that is possible for him and not
to desire to give as little as he can
do to save his face. This makes us
know that the dear Lord is with us.
When we have reason to believe this,
we should never take council with
our fears. All things are possible
to him that believes if it is right and
is needed. The Lord has promised
to go with us if we will “go.” He
makes no favorable promise to those
who will not “go.” Then, let’s “go”
forward with the Lord!
W. A. DUNCAN, Pastor.
