APRIL 10, 1925 Says To Raise More Hogs This Year Grow hogs this year is the advice of Dr. Milton P. Jarnagin, professor of animal husbandry at the State College of Agriculture in a brief re view of the livestock situation re cently. “With side meat selling at 25 cents per pound and the probabili- Ity of it going even higher, and a I drain of more than 100.000 hogs daily on the Chicago and other cen tral markets which makes certain a i shortage, there will be a market for all the hogs raised in Georgia at a good price for a long time to come,’' he said. “Under the stimulus of high prices the number of hogs was increased to more than three million during the war,” Dr. Jarnagin continued, "and : since that time it has gradually de creased until now we have less than half that many. A similar condition obtains in other sections of the coun try and it is my belief that high i prices will again prevail, and every farmer should raise all the hogs pos sible this year. “The shortage of labor has caused Ihundreds of thousands of acres that i was formerly devoted to the produc tion of cotton to lay idle, and this could be profitable devoted to feed crops. This would require a mini mum amount of human labor, and , most of the crops could be harvested j by the hogs. “It is my opinion that the state will never again have the surplus of i cheap labor that has existed in the past, and in the adoption of any farm . program it should be recognized that ' the maximum acreage must be put under cultivation with the minimum I amount of hand labor. Hog rawing ; should occupy a prominent place in i any farm program and particularly at this time when this phase of the i livestock industry is so bright. o Liquor and a revolver form almost as explosive a combination as liquor I and gasoline.—San Antonio Evening !
