Joel Dendy, of lYesbyterian Col lege. Clinton, S. C., spent last week end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dendy, and family. All the Methodist women who have not contributed to the Vaschti box will please see Miss Emma Kay at Alford's store at once, as she is anxious to get the box off this week- Mrs. Lawrence Adams and little daughter, Leila Virginia, of Atlanta, were recent visitors to relatives in the town and county. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Clay. Mrs. Russell Jackson, Mrs. Geo. Campbell and little Mirs Nettie May Campbell, of Atlanta, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Baker. Mr. A. N. Alford reports one of | the most enjoyable and profitable sessions of the U. S. and Bankhead Highway associations in Houston, Texas, week before last ever held. En route he stopped over in New Or leans and other places of interest. The joint highway associations willj meet next year in California. Mr. D. J. Bradley is attending commencement at Mt. Berry. His f son, Robert, who -has been a student j there for some three year*, gradu ates this term. M rs. Winnie Skelton moved Mon day to Greenville. S. C., and will make her home there for the future. The May meeting of the Woman's Club will be held Monday afternoon at the b<-me of Mrs. Charley Mathe son at 3:30 o’clock. Hostesses with Mrs. Matheson are Mrs. Sam Thorn ton and Mrs. Steve Skelton. Elec tion of officers will take place at this meeting. Mrs. Clovis Thrasher and little. eon, Clovis, Jr., of Atlanta, have re turned after a visit of two weeks to Mrs. Thrasher’s mother, Mrs Mary Blackwell, and family. Mr I J. Phillips. Sr., has been appointed a member of the Woodrow Wilson College Committee and at tended a meeting of the committee in Atlanta Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Judson B. Shaw had as their guest* Sunday Mr. and Mrs- Thomas Baldwin and Mrs. Alelaide Sheppard, of Madison. Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Anderson and children, of Greenville, S. C., were Sunday guests in the home of Mrs. < Anderson's mother. Mrs. J. D. Mathe son. Mr. John L. t'abe), of Savannah, j was a business visitor to Hartwell ‘ Monday. Mrs. Snaw Skelton and family have removed te Greenville, S. C., where they will make their hame for the present with Mrs, Skelton’s parents, Mr. and Mrs Barnes. Mr Schafer Skelton will remain in Hartwell and •perate his pressing club, as we are glad to know. The many friends of Mrs. Skelton regret to see the family leave our city. Major J. Lewis At Home. Scores of friends in town and county will be delighted to know that Mr M. J. Lewis has recently return ed to the old homeplace near Cedar Creek, and is enjoying good health. Mr. Lewis had been in ill health many years and it is gratifying to know that he is back home again, possess- 1 ed of his usual good health. Many from Hartwell and vicinity attended the home-coming exercises last Saturday at Montevideo school. It was a great day for that commu nity, om of the best in Elbert and Hart counties, the school district ly ing in both. Barton’s many friends will be glad to know that she is I greatly improved following her re cent illness. Birthday Party. Little Miss Elsie Alfotd celebrated her sixth birthday last Friday. May 1. 1925, with a most enjoyable par ity, to which about thirty-five little boys and girls were invited, the event occurring at the home of El sie’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. McCade Alford, and grandfather. Mr. D. C. Alford, on Benson street. Many pretty and useful presents were received by the little girl. Refreshments and favors carried out the color scheme of pink and white. After many games the little folks left wishing Elsie many more happy returns of the day. The many friend* of Rev. and Mrs. W. Gainesville High defeated Hartwell | High Tuesday afternoon in a fast ten-innmg game, the final score being | 7-6 m favor of Gainesville. i The Gainesville team made three runs in the ninth. Hartwell came i back ik her half and scored two ' runs, which were not sufficient to give her the victory. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Jack G. Craft and family are giving them a warm welcome back home af ter spending the winter months at their Daytona (Fla. t Hotel, The Williams. They have just recently returned from a trip to Cuba where they attended a meeting of the hotel association. We are glad to see these splendid folks back in our midst. They have their usual apart ment at The Hotel Hartwell. Commissioner C. E. Williams was from Bowersville Monday at tending th* regular monthly meeting. Master Jack Baker, ton of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Baker, is recuperating ran id ?y from a broken right arm, re ceived when engaged in the installa tion of an aerial for a radio set. Jack is a bright little boy and is on the go just tfee same as usual, though he will be one-armed for a while. Mr. and Mrs. Louie L Morris re turned Friday from New York. Col. A. S.
