The many friends of Mr. 4. J. I. All
man will be glad t« know that she is
better after being very ill for the
past three weeks in Nashville, Tenn.,
and trust she will soon regain her
usual good health.

Hon. Thos. B. Thornton, of Hart
well, president of the Georgia Seed
Growers’ Co-operative Association,
was on the program at the annual
meeting of the Georgia Crop Jm
provement Association in Athens
Tuesday. This body is made up of a
large membership of leading Georgia
farmers and does a great work to
wards improving soil condition.

Pretty Afternoon Party.
One of the most enjoyable social
events of the summer was the brdige
party given Friday afternoon by
Mrs. Wm. L. Murrow at the home on
Benson street.
Sixteen were invited, and follow
ing a number of games, a tempting
course of refreshments was served.
Mrs. Austin Haley, of Elberton,
was the guest last week of her aunt,
Mrs. Nan Hammonds, in Greenville,
S. C. She will spend this week with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Say
lors, while Mr. Haley is away with
the National Guard at Tybee, Ga.
Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Braddock and
daughters, Misses Reta, Grace and
Bertha Lee, and two sons, H. A., Jr.,
and Virgil, of Miami, Fla., were the
guests the past week of Dr. and Mrs.
W. I. Hailey. The family, with Mrs.
W. I. Hailey, visited Mountain City
first of the week, extending their tour
later in the week to the summer home
in Asheville, N. C.
Miss Ethel Saylors is spending her
vacation in the mountains of North
Carolina. While at Hendersonville
she will stop at The Mason.
Mr. W. C. Myers, of Liberty Hill,
brought in a limb off a tree Satur
day carrying nearly two hundred
damsons. The dry weather evident
ly doesn’t affect them in the least.
Miss Joneil Teatdey and Mr. Ten
nor Bennison, of Piedmont College,
Demorest, spent last week-end here
as guests of Miss Teasley’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Teasley.
Hugh Skelton, of Macon, is spend
ing several days here with his par
ents, Hon. and Mrs. J. H. Skelton,
and family.
Mrs. H. F. Hailey has returned
from a month’s visit to her daughter,
Mrs. Walter KeesC, in Anderson,
S. C.
Mrs. J. H. Land, Miss Norene and
Fred Land were visitors to the form
er’s sisters, Mrs. J. T. Gray and Mrs.
T. J. Neese, in Hickory, N. C., last
week. Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Neese
returned with them for a few days’
visit.
Hon. Parker Henderson, mayor of
Miami, Fla., died suddenly in that
city Sunday morning. His family
passed through Hartwell Sunday af
ternoon en route home after spend
ing some time in Asheville, N. C.
Mayor Henderson came through
Hartwell a few days previous going
back to Miami, where he had been
called on business.
Rev. and Mrs. Thos. J. Espy and
son, of Concord, Ga., spqnt several
days here last week, Bro. Espy hav
ing been called here to preach the
funeral of Mrs. Lawrence Thompson.
He will be remembered as the pastor
for some time of Sardis Baptist
church.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Vickery,
of this city, and Mr. and Mrs. Guy
Ridgway, of Royston, have returned
from an auto camping trip through
the mountains of north Georgia and
North Carolina.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leard, of
Greenville, S. C., announce the birth
Saturday, July 25, 1925, of a baby
girl. Name: Sara Eleanor.

One of the most enjoyable events
of the season was a prom party given
last week by Miss Verta Myers in
honor of her attractive guests, Misses
Mauline Harris, of Bowman, Eula D.
Seymour, of Lavonia, Willie Mae
Jones, of Elberton. The spacious
porch and reception hall were beau
tifully decorated with ferns and other
pot plants. Conversation, proming
and music were the chief features of
the evening. The music was render
ed by Misses Mauline Harris, Fannie
Sue Rucker, piano, Prof. H. H. Mad
dox, violin, Prof. Inman Reed, sax
ophone. Misses Evelyn Oglesby and
Ina Myers contributed their share of
enjoyment by presiding at the punch

Mr. H. C. Tucker, probably the
champion walker of the South, has
walked back to Ohio, as he writes,
making the round trip 1490 miles in
about 22 days’ walking time. The
“Thorogood” shoes which he wore on
the entire hike were bought some
months previously in Hartwell and
as he says are still in splendid con
dition. Some good shoes.
Many friends here of Mrs. Homer
Thompson will regret to know that
she was taken seriously ill at the
home in Atlanta Sunday and has un
dergone an operation in a hospital
there. Rev. Thompson, who is at
the head of the Sunday school work
in the North Georgia Conference,
was unable to attend the Training
School at the Hartwell Campground.
Dr. Howard, of Emory University, is
taking his place this week here. We
trust Mrs. Thompson will soon re
gain her usual good health.
Automobile license tags can be
bought after Saturday for half price.
Mrs. Wallace E. White and chil
dren, of Atlanta, jpined Mr. White
here last week for a visit to Mr.
White’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H.
White, and the family.
Mr. Sanders is one of Hart coun
ty’s best citizens, and we hope will
live to see many more reunions of
his kith and kin.
Mr. Paul E. Benson, of Detroit,
Mich., is visiting his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. E. B. Benson, and family.
Paul’s many friends are always glad
to see him back home.

Rev. and Mrs. Walter H. Moore
and children, of Juiz de Fora, Bra
zil, arrive this week to be guests for
some time of Miss Emma Kay, an
aunt of Mrs. Moore, who will be re
membered before her marriage as
Miss Nell Proffitt, of Elberton. Rev.
Moore is in charge of Granberry
College at Juiz de Fora, an institu
tion supported by the Methodist
Episcopal church, South. Hartwell
and Hart county people will give
these visitors a warm welcome into
our midst. Rev. Moore wil be pres
ent for the remaining days of the
Hartwell Campmeeting, also.
Master Virgil Braddock, of Miami,
Fla., who with his parents have been
visiting in the home of Dr. and Mrs.
W. I. Hailey, had an operation the
latter part of the week for removal
of his tonsils. He is getting along
nicely.
Dr. George S. Clark and Mr. W.
C. Page have returned from a busi
ness trip to Florida.
