Recent discover ies would indicate that Eden was the Sumerian name for the plain of Babylonia at the south end of which stood the city of Erldu, formerly on the Persian gulf; and near it a beau tiful garden Inhabited by the gods and containing the Tree of Life. This points to a district north of the Per sian gulf, and agrees with the Biblical evidence. U. S.
