The Spring Term of Jones
rior court convened in Clinton on
Monday. Judge .Samuel Lumpkin,
of the Northern circuit,
and a fair attendance cl uttoi aeys,
clients, jurors, witnesses, etc. The
Grand Jury was organized with
G. W. F. McKay as foreman, 'j j i0
charge of the Court was clear and
pointed statement of the duties
which devolve upon the Grand Ju
rors under tiie law, and an earnest
appeal lor the faithful and /earless
discharge of the same. Until
Wednesday •’ nighr. r< the court was en
gaged on the Civil docket, which
contains quite a number of cases,
several of which are of considerable
importance. The criminal docket
was taken up Thursday morning,
and up to the hour of going to press,
Friday, two cast s have been dis
posed of. Thorn is sufficient busi
ness upon this docket to consume
the entire week, and it is hardly
probable that court will adjourn be
fore Saturday. We will give more
of the proceedings next week.
Tlie Covington A Mato a Repot.
Macon,Ga., April 18.—At a meet
ing of the city council last night, a
petition from the Covington and
Macon railroad company asking lor
the privilege and right, of way on
Poplar street, was presented. The
petition was referred to a commit
tee eonsistingofAldermen Hudgins,
Ware, O'Hara. Smith and Davis,
who will consider tho matter and
examine the locality and report
at the next meeting of council.
Iftho toad is gt an ted these privol
eges. it intends to build a depot at
the corner ot Fourth and Poplar
streets, that will bo used by them
and the Macon and Dublin road.
TJie site chosen by them is the Lost
in t he city for these lines, as they
will come from their bridge over
theOcinulgoo down the old road hod
of the Georgia road, on a direct

The depot will ho as near the
heurt of' the business con lor as it is
possible for it to curio, and yet will
not pass through any of of tho prin
cipal streets, and will have to con
test Ji-ith tho citizens aiong tho line,
and the G, S. & F. is having to do.

Monday next, and the trains will
run from Mjicmi to Madison in
about three hours, including ail
stops.
Mrs. Gould and Colonel Macln n
are in Madison now and are [laying
off the hands, which work has been
going on for two days, so large is
the force.
Telegraph polos are being da
tnbuted along the line at the rate
of several cars per day, and the
wires will be up and the instrument
ticking between here and Madison

Madison, Ga. April loth.—When
the Covington & Macon passenger
train arrived in our city Saturday,
the person who received the most
attention from our citizens was Mrs.
Gould. This lady was driven over
our city hy Mr. W. A. Broughton,
and was given a lunch at the hand
some home of Mrs. A. M. Speer. Our
people .appreciate the efforts of this
lady and also the efforts of Col, E. G.
Maclien in the rapid building of the
U. & M.—Constitution.
