Ueodlng; Rees in Spring.
tt is an old saying and a true one, that
Ht takes more honey to spring bees than
to winter them. The only opportunity
for putting things to rights for spring
is during flying those fine days when the bees
are to hnndl freely, them as it is very damaging
j at any time during cold
weather. It is always very troublesome
to furnish feed to bees in mid-winter.
Yet, if we have neglected the matter id
autumn,_we_can W!t a~diffcreht" still niSiner! provide for wTil them,
in It not
do to feed liquids of any kind during
winter. The feed must be supplied in
the form of good, well sealed combs of
honey, or candy made from the best
xpiality of sugar. This candy is as good
th every respect as honey, and many
think better. It is made by boiling
gianulatcd been sugar to which water has
added, and molding it into cakes
or slabs of any desired form. This is
placed where on top of (he frames of comb,
the bees have access to it at all
times. A heavy packing must be ap
plied mize outside the entire hive to econo
the heal, so that the bees may
cluster about the candy. If this matter
is properly attended (o at this important
little period, tho bees will need but
attention until warm weather,
When we can safely feed syrups of
nny kind. From early spring until Iho
honey-flow, it pays well to feed every
colony a little daily, even if they have
abundance of honey in the hive. It
stimulates brood rearing, and it is only
by such judicious feeding that w© can

It is from such that we reap the
richost reward during the honey season.
Such colonics are usually ready to swarm
two weeks earlier than others, and power
ful swarms result instead of “hatfulls.”
Whether bees are wintered in cellars or
in chaff hives, they should remain m
their winter quarters until settled warm
weather comes iu, which may be from
the middle to the last of April, and some
times even later. This is an important
matter to has beginners especially, as the
veteran learned probably from fad
sible experience. Bees may be in the best pos
condition, but if exposed outside
too spring early, and caught in cold snaps,
follow. dwindling Bees, when will be almost sure to
wintered in cellars,
are much worse in this respect than those
packed outside. In replacing bees upon
their summer stands from the cellar, a
tine day should be chosen, and but few
colonies set out at once. These should
be allowed to take a flight before setting
out others, ns too many living become

It has been well said that one of the

Terrible Fate of Two Buddhist Monks.
There is news from China of ft remark
able affair in a Buddhist monastery near
Canton. A number of monks and nuns
appeared to take tho vows of the order
recently, unusually and among beautiful the applicants were
two young women.
Two of tho monks, after the others had
left the temple, made a desp era to assault
on tho young women, wn ose screams
brought the others to the rescue. The
abbot decided to turn the monks over to
tho send civil magistrate, but later be decided
to them back to the monastery for
trial and punishment. Each offender
received twenty lashes on the bare back
in the presence of all tbe others. This
punishment so enraged the culprits that
when released they armed themselves
with knives and attacked tho abbot.
This timo it was determined to make an
example of them. It was resolved to
burn tho offenders to death in the cre
matory of the monastery, and the sen
tence m bs carried out. The two priests
were carried bound into the crematory,
and in the presence of the brethren and
a largo crowd of spectators from the
village they were burned to death.— St.

Preparing for the Fair.
The South is becoming quite noted for
its fairs, and they are largely held here—
as in the North—in the Autumn. An

of those exhibits should be begun some
months before the fair. If a vegeiable is
