iMrs.' Edna Mercer died at her
homo near Haddocks Nov. 13th,
was buried at Fortvilte cemetery.
The funeral services were conduct'd
by Rev, W. Foils. Mrs. Mercer was
a devout Christian lady and was r.
member of the Primitive Bapti-t
church. Sbo leaves a husband,
daughter and several little grand
children to mourn her loss.

THANKSGIVING FOR THE
ORPHANS.
As our annual day of rejoicing
appreaches, Chr stian people should
not forget the orphans. When the
people assemble on that day to
thank God, let them thank him
with their substance. One of tho
institutions deserving of such re
membrance is the Thorn well Orphan
age, at Clinton, B. O. Although a
Presbyterian Institution, more than
half its inmates are from other de
nominations, Baptists, Methodists,
Lutherans and Episcopalians being
represented. Its children are from
ten different States, mainly of course
from South Carolina and” Georgia,
These children deserve we'l ot the
people. Thev cheerfully labor
their hands to help themselves,
in kitchen, laundry, farm and
where. Gifts of provisions, money,
.can all be used. As there ia
endowment to this Institution,
depends on the charitable tor sup
port. Rev. Wm. P. Jacobs is

The killing of Col. Jas. A. Hunt,
Representative from Catoosa county,
in Atlanta last Thursday night by
Hewlett Moore, a mail clerk, was a
dreadful tragedy. The men had
been friends for years and were en
gaged in a friendly frolic when
Moore, becoming exasperated,
plunged his knife into the abdomen ,
of Hunt killing him instantly; .
Moore is now ia jail in Atlanta and
filled with remorse at his hasty act.
Legislature was adjourned for Fri
day evening and Saturday in honor
of the late Representative.
