Seventeen years ago John Morris
left home at Gobleville, Mich., and
without a word of warming to his
friends “lit out” for California. A
few day b ago he came hack, ex
plained the situation, and ae Mrs.
Morris was still waiting for him,
they will go to California together
this time.
There is a young man attending
school at Bn tier, who went therein
January with $54 in his pocket, and
although he has his board, tuition
and other expenses to pay he has
more money than when he went.
The reason is he works when not
engaged in school. His services as
janitor more than pay his tuition,
and once a month be assists in mail
ing the Gospel Messenger and docs
any work that comes to hand.

In the flower yard of Mrs. E.

pretty euonymus bush in the shape
of a large arm chair. Its shape was
only discoverd a short while ago
and when trimmed and trained will
be almost perfect figure. Growing in
the. same yard is a flower of an
unknown name that captures hu m
ming birds. The flower is bill
shaped, and when the birds insert
their bills they become sometimes
so securely fastened that the birds
aro unable to withdraw them.
Several have been captured in this
way.
Hartwell Sun: Recently one of
our prominent physicians prescribed
two kinds of medicines to an old
colored man, one to be used external
ly and the other internally, and the
physician carefully explained how
they were to be used. Somehow oi
somehow else, the old da-key got
the directions mixed, and be rubbed
whh the internal medicine and

until the physician’s next visit.

The board of “The Confederate
Home” adopted for a name. “The
Confederate Home Association of
Georgia” and Mr. Henry W. Grady
was unanimously elected President.

Farmer Dutton of Ellisville, N,
Y., searched high and low for his
father’s will after the old gentleman
died, nearly ten years ago. Last
week he took np the family Bible
and the missing paper was found
between the leaves. It has been
there all the time.
