GRAND JURY PRESENTMENTS
We the Grand Jury, selected, em
paneled and sworn for the Apri
Term Superior court, Jones county
1889, make the following General
Presentments, to wit;
Upon investigation and informa
tion derived from tho report of the
Judge of the County Court, we find
tho Roads in good order with a few
exceptions as follows: The road at
tho Creek near the Green Glower
place in Towles Dist. be causewayed
ou both sides of the creek. The
two last Grand Jury’s having recom
mended the proper working of the
Road in Burden’s Dist, known as
the Garrison roads from tho X Roads
to Roberts Station at points known
as the Devils raco path about 200
yards and the Devils 3 jumps about
200 yards and the said recommenda
tion having been disregarded, we
renew tho said recommendation
and urge that these points be
made passable. We specially call
the County Judge’s attention to
this matter. Owing to the dauger
,oua condition of the bridge on East
side of Clinton near Mr. Phillips
residence, should bo repaired and
railed. For safety this work should
receive prompt attention. Also, the
biidgenear Mr, Jack Brooks on
Clinton and Macon road, be made
secure by making fast the flooring.
Upon inquiry we find that the bridge
across C>dor Creek is in Jones Co,
and that the Judge of tho County
Court is authorised to share the ex
pense us heretofore. With a view
to improved highways, after being
eulighteaed as to the best methods
adopted elsewhere, we recommeud
and urge the working of the Public
Roads by taxation in conjunction
with the conyict labor. Wo deem
it proper to put ourselves on record
as being in harmony and accord
with the Road Congress in whatever
measures they may adopt,
We have carefully examined and
revised the pauper list, and made
such changes as in our judgement
seemed proper. Whilst the sum total
appears excessive yet in our discre
tion we found no means of curtailing.
The total amount is about $332.00
per quarter or $1332.00 per aauum.
Wc recommend that inasmuch as
Mrs. Xmily Powell, a pauper, pur
poses i emoving to the State of Texas
thereby relieving the county of fu
ture care, that the Treasurer pay her
one quarter $4.00 m advance.
We find the Public Buildings, em
bracing the Court House, Jail, etc.
in good order
Upon investigation of the Treas
urers report, Books, fto, it is our
pleasure to note their good condition
together with all vouchers in proper
shape.

Upon a full and thorough exami
nation of the books, papers, etc. of
the Ordinary and Clerk we find the
eume in such order as reflect s credit
this efficient officer,
Iu this connection we recommend
that the Clerk, Mr. R. T. ltoss, use
the Reverse index anti bring up the
records from date of passage of act
by the Legislature, and that he be
paid not exceeding $25.00 for the
same. Having examined the books
and looked into the affairs and cen*
duct of the County Court, we find
everything pertaining thereto in
good order and the duties properly
discharged. In consideration of
the efficiency and capacity of Judge
Barron, we recommend that his
present salary be continued.
An examination of the Sheriff and
Tax Collectors books and papers,
show them to be in good order and
properly kept.
As regards the Rooks of the va
rious Justiee of Peace, an examina
tion shows each and everyone to bn in
proper shape and condition. Owing
to the resignation of J. A. Walker
N. P. Dist. 299 we recommend F. F.
Green to fill vacancy, Also F. B.
Hascall, Diet. 300 James Hunt 378
and T. W. 459.
In view oi the many vagrants
complained of, wo recommend that
the Judge of the County Court ap
lointa committee of two persons in
each Dist. to look after and report
all cases coming under tho vagrant
act.

There is more Catarrh in this sec
tion of the country than all other
diseases put together, and until the
last few years was supposed to be
incurable. For a great many years
Doctors pronounced it a local
disease, and prescribed local reme
dies, and by constantly failing to
cure with local treatment, pro
nounced it incurable. Science has
proven Catarrh to be a constitutional
disease and therefore requires
constitutional treatment. Hall’s
Catarrh Cure, manufautured i*y F.
J. Cheney & Co., Toledo, Ohio, is
the only constitutional cure on the
m arket. It is taken internally in
doses from 10 drops to a tea spoon
ful. It acts directly upon the blood
and mucus surface of the system.
