J. W. Burnett, of Morton, dis¬
trict overseer, was out last Tues¬
day looking after the api>ointmnnt
of sub OVITBCTS.
ICE and Lemons always to
Ik.* found at the store of Keller &
Goddard, Haddocks.
Frost was seen around Haddock
and James last Monday morning,
but not in sufficient quantities to
do much harm.
J. T. Finney, one of Haddock's
foremost merchants, was up this
way last Tuesday, looking after his
farming interest.
The abundant rains of late
made the grass grow rapidly, hut
with a few days of sunshine the
farmers w ill Ik* masters of the sit¬
uation.
ICE! ICE!! ICE!!!
You can always find ice during
the summer months at the store
«*f Keller & Goddard, Haddocks.
Gene Morgan and Gene Bragg,
have recently l>eon on a trip to
Wilkinson county. Wilkinson
borrowed the attraction from
Jones.
There was a large crowd in at¬
tendance upon quarlerly meeting
at Round Oak last Sunday. Dr.
Lew is preached a most excellent
sermon, which was appreciated by
the large congregation. He is
earnest, forcible anti instructive.
Right royally did the good people
of Round Oak entertain their vis¬
itors. Tin* next quarlerly confer¬
ence goes to Fortville.
Mrs. Austin invited the trus¬
tees and patrons to hear the chil¬
dren recite last Friday. A good
number turned out and the child¬
ren did real well. We have a
good teacher in Mrs. A. Mrs.
Morgan departed from tbs regu¬
lar rule of pitching a Unique! to
the best speakers and provided a
nosegay of sweet, pretty (lowers
for every child in school. How
kind in her to do that wav, and
how happy they made the child¬
ren.
Mrs. Mary Morris, accompa-
liicil by Mr. Billy Morris’ nice lit¬
tle wife, spent last Sunday in the
ville. Mrs. M., though seventy-
one years of age, is chw*rful and
full of energy—able to keep house
and work in her garden. She
seemed pleased to think that
through Tub News her son in
Talbot would learn that she was
on a visit to Gray. Oh! our lit¬
tle paper, it is cheaper to send a
message through you than to fur¬
nish stamp and envelope for a
letter.
Elmo Baynes, of Putnam, spent
last Tuesday night in The News
office in company with a cuffie
whom he had arrested that day at
Ilraddley. It seems that the ne¬
gro had gotten in debt to him, was
not disposed to work it out, and
rail away. Mr. Baynes did some*
right good detective work in tra¬
cing and capturing the miscreant.
The night spent at Gray keeping
watch over the tied up son of Ham
was not very pleasant to his boss,
we opine.
“Say, Frank, suppose you go to
the picnic to-day? I guess dinner
will Ik; plentiful there, and I’ll go
to Round Oak to-morrow, for the
hospitality of those good people
is proverbial, and by this arrange¬
ment we will lw*th lie enabled to
stand the siege another week. ”
The above program was carried
out, and if Frank fared as well as
Walter did, Haddock still has
three stores. Young men who
keep b'.chetor’s hall.look forward
to their Sunday's dinner with glo¬
rious anticipations.

Miss Annie James spent Satur¬

We were very sorry for II. M.
Moore and J. D. Roberts, or rath¬

thought they were planting they 5ets
cotton, and as soon as found
it had gone up they of course in¬
creased the crop, and not until
the grass began to grow did they
find out their stock was not suffi¬

crop is harvested and scads are
plentiful, then will he their time
