the ICE you need of Keller A' God¬
dard, Haddocks.
J. A. Morgan, of Valdosta,
made a short visit to his parents
last week.
I ICEand Leiuons always to
lie found at the store of Keller A
Goddard, Haddocks.
Gene Morgan left yesterday for
his.second visit to Wilkinson coun¬
ty. He will spend two or three
days in that section.
ICE ! ICE! 1 ICE! 1!
You can alw ays find ice during
the summer months at the store
of Keller & Goddard, Haddocks.
Dan 1 .cardan and sister, who
live in the upper portion of this
county, spent last Saturday and
Sunday with their relatives at
Gray.
Edgar Edmonson made a good
neighbor while his mother was
gone to Macon. He brought us
up some breakfast ice. Say, old
fellow, did you put six eggs in
your batter cakes?
IV. A*. Bragg left for Wilkinson
county yesterday to attend the
closing exercises of Talmadge In¬
stitute. He lias a daughter in at¬
tendance upon that school. She
will accompany him home next
Friday.
We thought that George Mc¬
Ghee had been so busy in supply¬
ing the people of Macon with beef
cattle, that he didn’t have time
to look after his garden, but judg¬
ing from the size of those turnips,
radishes, onions Ac., he sent us
yesterday, we are mistaken. We
have said before that George was
a hustler.
Gray was visited last Sunday
by one of the heaves! rains of tln-
season, accompanied by consider¬
able hail. Some of the hail stones
were the largest ever seen in this
section, many of them being as
large as hen eggs. Fortunately
it was not very thick and of short
duration, thereby doing very lit¬
tle damage to crops.
Tom, the little son of Davis
Holsenbeck, happened to a pain¬
ful accident one day last week.
He fell from one of the latching
posts in front of Morgan’s store,
breaking his right arm in the el¬
bow joint. I)r. Pursley was call¬
ed in, and administered to tlielit-
tlesufferer, and at this writing he
is getting on nicely. We hope the
bright little fellow will suffer no
permanent inconvenience from
iiis accident.
Ike Goins put in an appearance
at Gray one day last week. He
came all the way from Bradley,
and as the special guest and com¬
fort of little Tom Holsenbeck.
He was christened, tagged and
shipped by Dick Hunker, and Tom
at first thought ho Wduhi ‘Turn
him out,” and let him “crow” in
honor of the two noted scribes,
but alas for poor lkc, Tom’s ap¬
petite got the better of his patriot¬
ism, and Ike cut a big figure in
Tom’s breakfast last Sunday
morning.
Judge Ross, the efficient Ordi¬
nary of this county, has recently
been tendered the lucrative posi¬
tion of Dept. Collector in the Sa¬
vannah District of United States
court, but his numerous friends
in the county w ill be glad to learn
that he has declined to accept it.
Judge Ross has I>* en the honored
Ordinary of Jones county for the
past 88 years, and during that
time has made a record of which
any man should feel proud. He
is very much attached to his na¬
tive county and her people, and
feels it his duty to remain among
them and lend his aid in lifting
the grand old county upon a high¬
er plane of progress and prosperi¬
ty. Let Jones be congratulated.
AROUND HADDOCK
Noble Hilly Lest r spent
day nml Sunday night in the fity.
II. .1. Finney went over to (Jo-
hnnlnis Friday on a business trip
ami lvtuviu'd Monday afternoon.
R. H..Kingman of Jam us was
shaking hands with his friends in
tlu> village Saturday.
, Auss I Ida Lester has returned
home a I ter spending some da vs, no
douht pleasantly, with friends at
Walnut Level.
Mrs. M. P. Hardeman has re¬
turned home after a visit of some
days to Dublin and other points.
Miss Sal lie Williamson a very
pretly and attractive young lady
of Macon, is spending some time
with relatives in the city.
David E. Norris, one of .Tones
county’s most successful farmers,
has embarked in a new enterprise,
He has spent the greater part of
the last few nights in hunting the
festive mink. He has been suc¬
cessful in finding many, hut as
yet has made no captures. Mink
hides have advanced fifty per cent j !
of late, and the friends of Mr. X.
feel sure that he will yet reap a
good revenue from his new under¬
taking.
Last Thursday afternoon about
fifteen of our young folks, under
charge of I)r. Hardeman and Prof.
Ray, each armed with a tin buck¬
et or a lard can, went for an eve¬
nings outing and strawberry hun¬
ting. They came hack a few hours
later with empty vessels and
thoroughly drenched by rain.
We judged from the way they
were paired off on their return
that they were properly fixed and
no doubt enjoyed themselves re¬
gardless of the weather.
Friday afternoon any where
between the* hours of four and five
o’clock, a lone pedestrian with
pants rolled up and coat under
arm and collar unbuttoned, could
have been seen wending his foot-
steeps in a Xorthernly direction
from Haddock. Just about the
same time of day one of the old
vetrans, who had been off on a
protracted visit, was returning
home with a young man. The
three met about four miles from
the city and the following dialogue
ensued: “Thomas, I do believe I
see. the Colonel coming, why hov.-
dy do, Cob, where art thou going
at this late hour?” "Hello! oh 1
am only taking a little outing. I
have been very closely confined in
my office for several days, and
thought that a little exercise
would he beneficial. 1 ) “But you
look worried, you have gone far
enough, dont you think? Won’t
you get in the buggy and return
home with us!” After a few mo¬
ments of earnest persuntion the
Colonel w as induced to return with
them. They arrived in the city
about dark, and now the Colonel
says if his old comrade stays off
again six months unless horses are
more getatabh'lie will remain at
home peaceable and quiet. The
young lady was heard to remark
that any young man who would
walk five miles to see Ids girl cer¬
tainly must have a bad case, and
we agree with her fully.

Ike Goins, your correspondeiVi
from tin’s place, is so fond of tel¬
ling of his (rips I feel that he
needs some assistance in going
through the details of that straw¬
berry hunt on the IfiUi inst. You
remember Mow- Johnson, .(col .)
he was the driver, making
in a two horse wagon from Round
Oak to the Brooks place, a di T>
tance of live miles, to gather the
delieious fruit. Ike’s best girl
was one of the number. He never
drives a mule on his trips,
fore he is not use to these long
eared animals. Ike being one of
these nervous fellows,
talk to his girl for watching
capers of the mules. They be¬
came frightened, poked out I heir
ears, and Ike began to yell—yh-
yo-you Mose, (thinking possibly
of the hog and that he was going
to suffer the same fate.) They
finally reach their d< ’stination
with whole hones hut Ike yen’

When every thing was ready for
dinner, the sugar in the berries,
Ike proceeds to pour in a jug of
buttermilk and scrambles them
up, not knowing what kind
milk is used for th is purpose. Im-
ngiiu* his surprise wlieii he tasted
them. “Oh! my,” said he “they
use this milk for biscuit and I
thougiit it would do for this pur¬
pose also, in fact I never have
any J sweet milk, ’ as ■' you all know'i
don’t keep any of the horned cat-
tie.” Poor Ike lost his grip here
and the day was not very pleasant
to him. On the homeward trip
he drove one of the part-ie's Imggy,
to which was hitched a Texas po¬
ny, and in going up a liii! the
horse hacks the buggy into
wagon, completely demolishing
that vihicle and tumbling poor
Ike out on his head. There he
stood, an itH the lines wrap'jicd
around his legs, unable to move,
but vehemently calling,“oil 'lose,

would play the d—. These facts,
