heard of from this county was

cotton was worth in Macon yes-

week and publish the cotton mar¬
ket regularly.
The Primitive Baptist associa-
tiou meets at Enon church, in
Putnam county, on Friday of this
week. There are several church¬
es in this county that are mem¬
bers of that body.
W. H. Fletcher, of Clopton,
called Tuesday as was returning
from Macon. His generous heart-
prompted him to taken shoat all
the way from the city to contrib¬
ute to the association.

Capt. John Lingo in this county
will be pained to lesrn of his
death, which occurred very sud¬
denly last Sunday at liis home in
Wilkinson county. He was one
of the m< st prosperous and influ¬
ential citizens of his section.
J. M. Clark certainly deserves
the success that lie lias attained at
Fortville. Old Fortville has in¬
deed been “made new” under his
judicious management. In let¬
ting the people know where he is
and what lie is doing, through the
columns of his -county paper, lie
not only advances liis own inter¬
est, but lends liis aid in the sup¬
port of a home enterprise that ev¬
ery county needs The other mer¬
chants of the county should fol¬
low his example. There is gaeat
virtue in printer’s ink. Read the

him your patronage.

friends in Monroe county.

L. P. James and family left oil
Friday last for Sibley, where they
will spend a week or more.
Misses Rosa and Lena Maesen-
burg, of the Central City, are vis¬
iting ut the Big Field.
The game of ball at Haddocks
last Saturday resulted in a great
notwithstanding victory for the Yellow Jackets,
the big guy, Will
Farrar, the big fat pitcher from
Browns, the 2d baseman from
Meriwether and some other posi¬
tions, the little Yellow Jackets
defeated them by a score of 17 to
4. The boys compliment Jordan
Moughon for the impartial man¬
ner in which lie umpired the
game.
Master John H. Roberts, of the
Gray Place, rode his colt here on
Sunday last and when ho was fix¬
ing to leave he led the colt up to¬
ward the railroad to see if she was
afraid of the train, and in some
way managed to kick Johnnie
with both feet in the side, knock¬
ing him down and skinning up liis
fact? and nose. His father came
in the afternoon and carried him
home. We want to say to the
boys who have colt or wild horse
to train that the best place to
start is in the stable. Give it
plenty to eat, talk to it, pat it on
the head, rub it oil' two or three
times a day, give it a piece of ap¬
ple eveey time you go in the sta¬
ble and treat it kindly in every
respect and it will soon learn to
love you and give you no trouble.

her daughor, Mrs Green, improv¬
ing.
J T Williams, wife and little
boys, visited relatives in Putnam
last week.

bells will bo, ringing here in the
near future.
In traveling through Putnam
last week I coi 1 l but n >tico the
enterprise of her people. As a
rule the homes are well kept and
camfortafile. Much attention is
paid to stock and cattle raising.
While the cotton is not very good
the corn is splendid. Churches
doing well, schools largely atten¬
ded and the people seem prosper¬
ous and happy. The roads North
of Eatonton are as good as can
be and it is a pleasure to ride over
them. They have a fine road
system and in a short while will
have all of their roads in good or¬
der. Our most pleasant visit to
relatives there was ended by reu¬
nion of thirty at the neat and
beautiful home of W. CL Kim¬
brough. The day was delightful¬
ly spent, and will ever be a pleas¬
ant memory.

,T. D. Wood and wife entertain¬
ed quite a large number of young
people on Iasi Wednesday evening
at their hospitable home at Way-
side. There were many merry
hearts present and each seemed to
enjoy the occasion to the utmost,
Dancing was indulged in until
quite late, when the “wee small
hours warned all that it was time
to ret urn home.

Mrs. T. C. Freeman accompa-
nied her niece, Miss Baynes, to
Machen last, Tuesday, where she
will remain for a few weeks.
Miss Sallie Lumsden, of Vine-
ville, is visiting Mrs. Little at the
home of W. E. Whitehead.
Will Dixon, of Macon, spent
a few days last week with the fam¬
ily of Moses Smith. Wo hear that
Mr. Dixon made quite a “mash”
on several of the young ladies at
the dance at sir. Woods,
Dr. Bradley visited this neigh¬
borhood last Sunday evening. We
hope to see him again soon on his

J. R. Childs and wife made a
flying business trip to Macon last

with and the farmers are begin¬
ning to gather the fleecy locks of
cotton to prepare lor market.
Miss Mamie Jones has resumed
school here. She has a full school
and expects otheis. We arc glad
to have her with us again.
W. IL Lowe and family spent
Sunday in the village'. Their
daughter, Miss Ulali, a bright and
attractive little lady, is going to
school down here, and Iras won
many friends.
J. B. Edwards was seen at Sld-

burned machine.y, and decided to
carry it to Macon for reparation.
He, together with his wife and
Miss Ella Daniell, returned to
Macon last week.
Miss Mary McWilliams of Lew-
iston is visiting her sister, Mrs.
Crawford. She has made many

friends during her visits up here.
Our only regret is that her visits
are not more frequent.
II. I’. Emerson and wife spent
Friday in Macon and went in to
see Mrs. Nobles, the murderess.
Mrs. Mary James of Macon is

ity are steadily moving. Every
body is making syrup. E. T Mor¬

has just about completed the
bridge over County Line creek.
This is a great occommodation to
the public, ns we have great in¬
convenience about crossing other¬

ceived a letter that contained one

Miss Josio Baxley, who is teach¬
ing school at Caney Creek, spent
several days at home last week,
but left Monday morning to re¬
sume her school, which will close
in a few days. We will rejoice
when she returns to protract her

will spend a few days with rela¬
tives.
Mrs. Fannie Hanson and sister,
Miss May Hudson, of Sibley, are
on a visit to relatives here.
Mrs. Lizzie Moore, of Macon, is
visiting the family of Dave Hud¬
son.

We have lmd several days of
sunshine recently and the farmers

the rain. It is opening very fast
and some few have commenced

four runaway cars. The engineer

were in the settlement recently.
