The Mass Meeting.
The unanimous verdict of

to discuss the fair situation

ii
This meeting was called for
purpose of creating enthusiasm
nnd increasing interest in tho fair,
and to a great extent it wue a sue-
cess. Tho only obstacle p,, cullll .
len d was in arranging for a place
to hold the fair. All had consid¬
ered this point settled until it was
learned that thero was objection
to the church being used hy the
fuir association, J^ome of the
members thought it b"st not to
use the church for secular
es. This action made it
ry for the fuir associotion either
select another pluco for
the fair cr build a house at
ley. The latter plan was agreed
upon nnd a committee was ap¬
pointed to formulato plans
report at a meeting to bo called
an early date.
Many enthusiastic speeches
made in all of which the
inant note was county patriotism.
Col. Eugene Anderson, of tho Ma¬
con Evening News, was present
and made a good speech. He
eloquently of tho resources of om
county, her people and our chanc¬
es of winning the first premium
nt the State Fair. Col. Anderson
in behalf of the Macon Evening
News offered one yonr’s suhsnrip
tion to that paperys a special
mium at our county fair.
Tho meeting wns productive
much good, and though there
be a little ripple here nnd
it is settled beyond all doubt
there is hardly a man in the
ty who is not determined to
everything possiblo2tj irnko tin
fair u success.
The Puritan Ideal

minds of children and youth, com¬
mitted to their euro and instruc¬
tion, the principles of piety, jus¬
tice aud a sacred regard to truth,
love to their country, humanity,
and universal benevolence, sobri-
«ty, industry and frugality, chas¬
tity, moderation.and temperance,
and those virtues which nre the
ornament of human sjcioty, and
the basis upon which a republican
constitution is founded; and ii
shall bo the duly of such instruct¬
ors to endeavor to lead their pu¬
pils into a clear understanding ol
the tendency of the above named
virtues to preserve and protect a
republican constitution, nnd se-
cure the blessings of liberty, ns
well as to promote their future
happiness, ami ulso to point tendency oul
