From Itoiiml Onk.
For thirteen years the boys of
Round Oak liavo tugged, pulled,
and logrolled in un effort to im¬
port some girls that would stay
here a little while at least, but up
to the present the project lias been
a failure. For years and years
there have been from five to thir¬
teen boys here and never more
than two or three girls at any one
time. Why this agravating state
of affairs has existed so long no
one cun tell. Of course we have
n lot of visiting girls at times and
a few nearly all the lime but they
are in and out. We want them to
live here—just keep staying, The
fact of the busines is that when
a girl comes here, even on a visit,
she is rushed by callers at night
so incessantly that she lias to
sleep durjng the day to catch up
on Sominjs. In addition to this if
slio is real nice to our boys she is
whooped up by them to such an
extent that boys will como to 6ee
her from two or three adjoining
towns. A sample of this kind is in
tny mind now and I believe I’ll
tell it. One young lady came here
whose company was so universal¬
ly sought that some one had to
stand at the front door and let
the boys in one at a time, like go¬
ing to mill. Now and then when
the rush was not so severe the
young lady would go to the front
door herself to say good bye to her
caller, only to say good morning
to another who would accompany
her to the parlor. Some of the
boys here met out on the street to
settle whose time it was to call.
“N-e-x-t” is now the byword.
I will state, however, that our
boys are very patient. Any young
lady visiting here can hold them
down at any notch she likes—can
guage their calls to suit her capa¬
city to stay awake or the durabil¬
ity of her powers of articulation.
Afternoon walks, buggy rides,
church going and such tilings are
included in the attentions that
young ladies get while with us. If
any young lady w ho reads this
notice feels like bumping right ap
against a social bonanza she knows
where to come. Wo havo a crop
of fine young girls coming on.
They have been chopped out and
put to a nice stand and with good
seasons and careful cultivation I
see no reason why they can’t be
made a profitable crop, and then
our import duties will be less.
Thanks to the homo girls.
W. II. Henderson, of our town,
has had his lawn mower repaired
and he repairs to an adjoining un-
occupied horse lot every few days
to see how slick the machine will
work, which has re-pared the grass
and weeds until it is now necessa¬
ry for Nature to repair to the spot'
and re-prepare material for there-
paring machine to again re-pare,
while Mr. Henderson as often re¬
pairs tc his favorite place for
watching the re-pnparing. Nature
has a patent on this machine and
uses legs instead of w heels and the
thing kinder steps along.
A stock company has been
formed of homo capital and char¬
tered under the name of the
Round Oak Gin «fc Mill Company.
The machinery has beeu ordered
and the company proposes to have
everything in readiness for the
coming cotton crop. The ginning
capacity will bo about fifty bales
per day,
The young people of our town
round-danced and fudged on last
Saturday night and had a pleas-
ant little social ut the homo of
Mr. and Mrs, \V, F. White.
