For two months previous to a
week ago I was sorely bothered
with a lot of mice in ni> room.
They seemed to have the sharpest
kiiiubof teeth and a perpetual de¬
sire to use them, also the most
ravenous appetites They would
gnaw at and disfigure everything
in the room. I tried one of those
«ever-qnit-catcliing traps nicely
baited for weeks, but while I was
watching the mice they would on¬
ly peep at the bait, almost smiie,
anil wave at me with their right-
hand front feet. I couldn’t tempi
the hatoful things to go into the
trap, so I threw the bait away,
hung tho trap ou a nail on tin-
wall, got mad and left home fora
week, expecting when I returned
to find everything in the room
converted into mouse chips. The
whole lot of mice seemed sorry for
me, for wl-ei I r-t urned home I
found, it seemed to rat, every
mouse in town had scrambled up
the wall to the bait:esa trap five
feet from the floor and had caught
themselves, through sympathy for
me, I suppose, ami had eaten
eachother til! there was but one
mouse and a hat full of
bones left. I killed that one,
threw out the bones, and haven’t
seen or heard a mouse since.
Some time back Capf. F. S.
Johnson of oar town advertised
for one hundred bushels of peach
seed. Since that advertisement
appeared, hig, little, old and

not care to cat the finest peach in
America, because l would have to

a slap on the face to tell a hoy to
“go to Holland, ” which was only
a softer name f-ora warmer clime.
Now tell one of our hoys to go to
