Push the Fttir.
The people of the county should
stop and think that it is only
three weeks until the time when
we are scheduled to give our great¬
est county fair. The faith of the
county is pledged to do this and
we would not lie satisfied with
anything less. That the fair will
tm a siccess is without ft doubt,
but tlio more we do and say the
greater will be the success.
The fails we bnvo held demon¬
strate what (lie county is capable
of doing—each fair bus been a
gaeat success—and to do less now
would be to stand indicted for lack
of local patriotism. None of us
would hesitate a moment in say¬
ing and doing everything in our
power for the benefit of the com¬
ing fair if wo could be brought t
a dear understanding of what th T
jmst fairs have done for tho comi¬
ty. They have advertised us. We
nre more widely known than ever
before. Land has appreciat'd in-
value, outside capital is being at-
traded into the county and we
nre thought move highly of than
before.
All of these benefits have come
to us ns the result of hard work
in preparing exhibits for our fairs.
None of our success came by ac-
cidcnt or luck; none will come
that way. if we hove put less la-
boron the coming fair than o„
previous ones it will lack just that
much of being a success.
If anyllnng haa been neglected
there am just nineteen days in
which to remedy it. If there are
liny who have done nothing at all
they have just nineteen days in
which to do something.
An appeal is made to every
man, woman and child iu the
county to do something for the
fair. The whole county will be
henefitted n.td therefore it is not
less the duty of one man than an¬
other to give assistance.
The agricultural department is
of the greatest importance this
year. That is if wo are to compete
at the State Fair, and there is not
a doubt of it. If tho fanners will
do their duty success is assured
ut home and at Macon.
Farmers Congrim

This means that we will have
with us this year a greater num¬
ber of visitors from out of the
popnty than we have had. These
visitors wmen they return home
will not hesitate tc, toll what they

ing this Ip be the best. fair.
Many of tho state's most prom¬

As a rule a man will feel well
satisfied if ho can hobble around
on crutches two or throe weeks
after spraining his ankle, and it n
usually two or threo months be¬

Clean Tongues.
President Roosevelt’s address
recently before a Holy Name so-
an organization of which
the cardinal principal is parity of
thought and speech, was n strong
and earnest plea for decency. Mr.
Roosevelt always shows to ndvon-
tnge when lie drops political dis-
cuseiofi and enters the domain of
j morals.
There is no more foolish, weak
reprehensive habit than foul-
ness of tongue. There is nothing
that so surely stamps th* offender
as lacking in gentility. There is
nothing more eloquent of dearth
of ideas or more conclusive of
paucity of vocabulary. There is
no thought which a man ought to
have that cannot be expressed in
decent language. There is no pas¬
sion which man should feel that
cannot find vent in respectable
terms.
There is no vice so soul destroy¬
ing uiid character-uprooting as
this. But if the youth is to be
made cleaner mouthed, the age
must be clean mouthed too.
Teaching must be by example as
well ns by precept.
It is to be Imped flint the pres¬
ident’s speech .«i II bo echoed and
re-echoed over the land, and the
man with a foul tongue nnd vile
jokes which nre usually the epi-
tome of nasty imbecility, will be
-diunm-d like the plague,
The American people should be
clean tongue! £ mid clo/in hearted,

Aii Oklahoma paper describes
the troubles and powers of a
editor in the .following
story: “A business man in an
Oklahoma town got mad at the
editor of a local paper about an
article that appeared in tbe paper
and notified the editor that he
ivonld in the future have iiis print¬
ing done at the job ofilce, where
they didn’t have a paper to roast
everybody. He thought, of course,
the paper would have to quit bus¬
iness, but it kept going.
“In about two months the
man’s daughter was married, and
they had a big blptvout, but not
a line appeared in the paper.
Later on his wife gave a big recep-
tion to some visitors, but not a
line of it appeared in the paper.
The next full a muss meeting was
hold in the town to see about
some public improvements, and
this business man made a big
speech. The meeting was written
up in full, except this man’s
speed). Tt was skipped.
“Then the business man called
and asked the editor what ho had
it in for him about. ‘Oh, nothing
at nil, ’ replied tho editor. ‘You
got mnd last year, if you remem¬
ber, and said you were going to
have your job printing done at
the job office, so I thought I’d
just let the job printer print the
account of your daughter’s wed¬
ding, your wife’s reception and
your speech. »i
