Mr, George Green, who is study¬
ing telegraphy and agency work
under the railroad agent at this
place, and Mr. George Bearden,
who is clerking for Barron and
Henderson, board with Mr. Geo.
Pippin. In fact tin, boys room
‘ ,,d sleep together. Some time
agreed to play a trick t»n M*.
Green. Mr. Pippin told Mr. G.
that Mr. Bearden sometimes had 1
and when he did he cut lip!
terribly, and that he would have
to watch out and keep out of the
ny when tbe fit8 came 0I) . Mr .
Bearden had ail sortsof fits cut
and dried ready for delivery any
uiglit. ti n.Mj |» ,h» night
Mr. Beardeu tackled one of his
ready-made fits. Right out of the
bed Mr. Green went and woke np
eveiybody in the house. Mr. Pip-
pin ran into the room to see how
Mr. Bearden was progressing with
hie quota of fits, After u
the fit pasted off and Mr. Green
went back to bed tud Mr. Pippin
back to bis room. ’Twasn’t long
before another fit wo* added to
the bill of fare, when Mr. Green
jumped out of the bed again and
took his stand in one corner of
room in mortal fear and anxiety
as to the final outcome. After a
while this fit passed off and Mr.
Greene again went back to bed.
Later on, according to program,
the third act in the shape of a fit
was on and Mr. Greene again re¬
sorted to his corner. Whan the
curtain fell after this act Mr.
Greene argued the matter in this
way: He jierer heard of a person
who had more than three fits in
rapid euccession—they either died
or quit having them for a while.
So he went to bed and put in good
time oft his voyage to slumber-
land during the little remnant of
the night that he had before him.
The process was indulged in at
intervals forseveral nights unt'l
the projectors of the plot thought
they had worried Mr. Green long
enough when he was told of the
plot.
It looks tome as if the farmers
in }hi« part of Georgia couldn’t
farm if they didn’t have a little
cotton left in tbe fields to fool
with in January and Fobruary. If
ouly one buudred pounds of seed
cotton to the plow was made and
all of that should open in October
a little would have to be left in
the field till Juuuary or February.
If twenty balesTo the plow should
be made, it is usually kept up
with, except a little for January
and February. A month ago this
same htRe dab of cotton was in
the fields, and it is there new, *1-
though the farmer wauld say, “I
am up wijh my cotton,*’ all dur¬
ing the fall. Ouly a few day's ago
I looked at a lot of cotton fields in
Jonss, Bibb aud Monroe counties
and they looked just as they did a
month ago. So you see the
*‘scrapping business” can’t be
finished up before January or
February, according to habit.
Pigs and shotes are bringing
good prices arouud here now. Ev¬
erybody sssms to want one or two
for meat next year. The scarcity
*of them hat caused some people to
go considerable distances to find
them. One fellow went to the
lower part of the county and pur¬
chased some regular ‘‘piny woods
rootsts,” which he informs me
can drink slops out of a jug. Sev¬
eral years ago I bad one of this
piny woods variety that I never
could fatten, although I fed it on
crackers, cheese, syrup, sugar,
candy, biscuit, corn bread, calo¬
mel, raisins, quinine, Cuban Re¬

steal it. JifliBy itgwt out of the
pen anfi k week rolled around and
I heard udthing from it. I began
to couttitblate myself that my
useless hand saw pig was gone for

Make Every Christmas- Child Happy
at
Christmas should cans* people
to hunt for children whose stock¬
ings Santa Claus might fail to
find. Every person ought to be re¬
membered on Christ's' birthday.
No little hungry Lnzaruaes should
be unfed at our doors on Christ¬
mas. •
In searching for these all over
North Georgia some children will
be found in such ubeojutely d<*s-
titute circumstances, or -in tin
midst of such iminr.ru! surrotind-
ings* that they will never hnrea
chance to he useful citizens. Some
of these ought to-be given to kin¬
folks, others without kindred will
need to be sent to some Orphans’
Homo whero they will have «
chance for lift*, Children ought
never to be loft in a pauper house
The North Georgia Orphans Home
at Decatur has helped about 800
suffering children this year, and
is ready'to help everyone. Christ¬
inas snould mean a real blessing
to every child.
