Any one having business with
Jones county citizens will post¬
pone it.—today is circus day in
Macon,
While the court house is still
going upward work on the jail is
being pushed also. The contract
calls for the completion of the
jail by Christmas.
S II Haddock has'opened the
largest store in the county, up-to-

Call and see him, ho is always
glad to see you.
Mr 5am Barron has an exhibit

has on exhibition a collection of
jellies, preserves, ect that will no

All the children will be in at¬

The parents? Well, they will
have to go down too, not to see
the circus, of course, hut simply
to look after the children.
John W Bonner took charge of
the Gray hank yesterday as cash¬

business counts the affairs of the
bank will prosper in his hands.
Mr. WjA Winn and wife left
last night for Harlem, where they
will make their future home.
They have made many friends

and our best wishes do follow
them.
Several from this county heard
the joint debnto between Mr.
Smith and Judge Russell in Mon¬

it but it was at the expense of the
genial Judge.

Mrs Martha Morgan came down
from Monticello last Tuesday
and is stopping with her son, \V

to know of an intention on the
part of this excellent lady to
again make Jones her home.
J T Williams informs ns tiiat

Jones will bo down in a few days

his possession causes him to be
hopeful indeed. May his fondest
hopes bo realized.
The last, grand jury found a true
bill against Mr Slnnholser of Ma¬
con, for riding too rapidly through
Jones in hie automobile. There
was a bill introduced and passed
regulating the speed of automo¬
biles in this* county. The death
of a little negro a shoit while back
is attributed to injuries sustained
in a runaway caused by an auto¬
mobile.
Those interested in our Sunday
school would dislike it very much
to see the school go into winter
quarters. Tln-re arc quite a num¬
ber of children here and the
school is needed. Let the par¬
ents see that the school is upheld
by attending themselves and
bringing their children.
Jones county is getting her
share of premiums at the Macon
horse show. Mr J L Smith re¬
ceived the blue ribbon for the best
throe year old horse colt. The
first prize for the best three year
old mare colt was awarded to F M
Stewart. D R Whitehead was
awarded the first prize for the best
gentleman rider, .while J A Stew¬
art received second prize for the
best single roadster. Jones coun¬
ty is always in evidence when she
undertakes to show any oi lier
products.
No action was taken yesterday
by the board of directors? of the
Jones County Lund and Improve¬
ment Company ns to building n
hotel at this place. Very few of
the stock holders were presout,
and there is opposition on
the part of some, while others,
who were at first enthusiastic over
the enterprise, liuve cooled off con¬
siderably. The matter was de-
fered until the December meeting.
From present indications one is
authorized to believe that if there
is ever a hotel built at Gray some
private individual or other corpo¬
ration will be the owner.
Mr G C Smith was so unfortu¬
nate as to loose his purse and con¬
tents m Macon last Saturday.
He’s unable to say whether his
pocket was (licked or whether he
lost it through carelessness. He
rather thinks was drawn from Ins
pocket with his handkeichief and
drooped to the ground without his
knowledge, it was Smith day,

She was awarded three prices—

Mrs J R Childs and her friend,
Mrs Huilo of Atlanta, gave friends
o; Haddock a pleasant surprise
recently. Mrs Haile is an old
schoolmate of Mrs D E Norris,
having been students of Wesley¬
an in the sixties. Mrs Haile is
spending sometime with Mrs
Smith, the present owner of "the
Green Clover farm. The change
from life in the great city of At¬
lanta to the rural district of Jones
county gives them pleasure for
(he time spent here and breaks
the monotony of city “life. The
stay on her farm is one® of profit
as well ns pleasure to Mrs Smith.
She is the mother of the late
Cuyler Smith, who has lately had
his name changed to Smith Ctiy-
