Evening New* Feb
Although only about one-quar¬

cardi inviting them to become
members of the Clark Howell
club, already 600 have asked to
have their names enrolled as mem
hers and the indications are that
this number will soon be increas¬
ed to one thousand. I.
A few days ago Hon Ben
Jones, who began the movement
in Bibb county for the Atlanta
editor, commenced sending out tho
postal cards to tho voters of
county snd on each postal was a
return card attachod which was lo
be signed and returned.
These cards would have been re¬
ceived by every voter in the coun¬
ty by this time but for tho reason
liiat the past week hatbsen a very
busy one with Mr Jones in Ins
business.
The firs’ batoh sent out wbb re.
turned next day fand all but a
dozen who were invited joined tho
new club. In fact Mr J ones and
other friends of Mr Howell were
extremly gratified at tho tesuJt of
the postal catd invitations.
At present these cards are being
sent to the registered voter* of
Macon and the work will continue
until every voter in the entire
county haa been asked to join. (It
is the intention of Mr Jones to
send out several thousand mure
cards and early n >xi week a m*el-
ingvif *11 those who have asked to
)iave their names enrolled will be
galled at the h»,ad quarters which
Mr Jones haa established on Mul¬

With hi* accustomed energy Mr
Jones Began ooosting tbs editor

thing he did was to establish
headquarters at 551 1-2 Mulber y
street. He bought chairs and ta¬
bles and installed in the building
a telephone. Then he ordered, a
big banner with Mr Howell’s pic¬
ture paiuted upon it and yester¬
day this banner was placed upon
the front of the Mulberry street
heudqunrtora. this sign, Mr
lu addition to
Jones will order a huge oiovuh
banner to be suspended front across
Mulberry street in of the
headquarters so tout not only Mn
con people but visitors to Macon
small become acquainted with the
fact that there is something Macon do’itg
in the Howell liuejiu anil
Bibb county.
Mcmcns BY THE HUNDRED
Since it haabacoina known that
ft Howell club wa*( organized in
Macon by Mr Jones he has re¬
ceived a multitude of letter* each
day from people asking to hur-
thsir names enrolled and many of
these came from counties acquaintance adjoin¬
ing Bibb. Mr.Tones extensive
with farmers is an one
and this is trite with those resil¬
ing in counties other than Bibb.
When they ascertained that he
was heading a Howell moveuent
they communicated with him and
fliey would all receive postal cards
and be given an opportunity to
join.
MAYOR SMITH THE YtRST,
When the first hatch of postals
was sent otu, Major Bmith’s train*
was included in the number and
his answer was one of the first re¬
ceived. u laddition to signing Smith
tho post 1 card, Mayor

ing him of hie hearty sympathy
with Mr Howell's cause und ask¬
