M. C. GREENE, Propr.
T T-N PERSON
OCAL AND AI
Mis 1 Fannie Roberts spent
Sunday with Miss Edna Green.
The freight room at the depot
continues crowded. We certainly
need a new and larger depot.
N“w subscribers continue to
come in. We hope to merit their
patronage.
Grover Baker, of Griswoldville,
was a visitor at the home of Dr
Poland Saturday and Sunday.
Miss Edna Greene came over
from Milledgeville iast Friday
and spent until Monday with her
parents.
A‘ter spending several days
with Miss Lila!) Riberts. Misses
Annie Smi f h and Nettie Turner
are at home this wwk.
We rejoice to know that E A
Roberts is fast recovering. Hie
prospects ale that he will he out
in a short while.
Mr A J Middh-brooks lias a lit-
t]»> gon who has lieen quite sick
with pneumonia. We are glad to
report him much improved.
The building committee have
at last settled upon a phm for
the Gray church. If carried out
it will be a beauty.
While our advertising columns
are crowd' d our home merchants
do not occupy much space. Look
over and see how many are repre¬
sented.
And still they come. While
our advertising space is crowded
we will squeeze up a little and
make room for all candidates. A
fiver gets you iu all right.
It is said that the clock in the
tower was heard to strike as far as
the depot one day Hub week. The
whid must have been blowing m
that direction.
We saw a lawyer looking for a
big plow line one day last week.
When asked what use he had for
a plow he replied that he wished
to hang it in the tower to relieve
the overworked bell.
Preaching at the school house
next Suturday and Sunday, also
Sunday nightThe public cordially
invited The members are espe¬
cially requested to he present on
Saturday at 11a in.
Lumber is being placed on the
ground for the building of a new
gin house just in front of the
depot on the east side of the rail¬
road. The »utfit will be modern
in every respect.
'i’lle town was somewhat excited
one day laBt week and all eyes
were turned m the direction of
the hank, expecting a conflagrn-
tion. The fact had become
known that John Bonner had
brought another bucket of water,
When Mr Golucke was bidding
for the job of drawing plans for
the new court house he stated
that the hell wlrch would b“
placed in the tower could he heard
live miles. He missed h's calcu¬
lation by about four and three
quart:-r miles.

Jot Smith is confined t<> his
lied. Trust lie will soon he out
again.
J ft Roberts had a new voter to
arrive at his house Tuesday night.
Cajer says he will have the little
rellow registered atonconnd qual¬
ified to Vote in the coming pri¬
mary.
J T Morton Is the latest entry
for County Commissioner. Mr.
Morton is one of the countv’s
most deserving young men. H-<
posseses many good business quali
ties, and if elected will make a
good and acceptable officer.
Wears almost satisfied that
the fruit crop has been killed.
The cold winds and ice of Tues¬
day and Wednesday were severe
and fruit buds and early vegeta¬
bles proved an easy prey, we
fear.
JE Glawson has yielded to the
wishes of a goodly number of cit¬
izens and mitered the race for
County Commissioner. lie is
safe and conservative and it plac¬
ed in the office will no doubt look
to tfie county’s interest at all
times. Ho solicits your vote.
Mr Glover, chairman of the
hoard of County Commissioners,
says the court, house shall have a
better bell or he will know the
reason why. We have yet to gee
a man that is satisfied with the
cast iron thing that hangs in the
tower.
This week only at S H Had¬
dock’s, 22 1-2 yards )ellow home-
spun $1.00, 16 yards Riverside

Major Jones was inquiring a
few days as to the whereabouts of
a cow with a bell on. Some one
suggested that perhaps the hell
was in the court house tower, b it
ivus unable to give information as
to the locaiio'i of the cow.
We direct attention to the arti¬
cle of Mr Sum Barron calling up¬
on our people to attend the mass
meeting that will be called in the
near future for the purpose of
electing a m*w executive commit¬
tee and other matters. The
News has for several years on-
deavored to get our people to ut-
tend these meetings. lt is wrong
to stay »t home and allow those
who go to arrange th«se things
(and then if perchance you are
| not pleased to go about and ray
things wore unfairly done. Elect-
ing a Democratic executive com-
nnttee is an important matter,
and every man who is interested
in good government and
.......... ........‘»„d
that good men are selected for
this important place. We do
mean to infer that had men have
been selected heretofore, or that
there is any suspicion of unfair
means to control the coming
meeting but simply to impress
importance of suid meeting
remind our people of the respon¬
sibility that rests upon them.
When the meeting is called
your business and attend, and
you stay at home and things
please , you blame yourself , and ,
those who did, pei haps, the
they could.
To the Men of My County.

Round Oak, Ga,
March 18th, 1906.
Mr Editor:
I am not fond of writing
cards to the public but I want to
snv this much at this time.
7 hope when the mass meeting
is called, which will he soon,
there will he a good, strong rep-
representation from all parts of
the county present. There is a
very important matter that will
come before the meeting. To
secure a strong, lair, impartial ex¬
ecutive committee for the county
for the next two years. We can
get and must have sue!] a com¬
mittee, it is all important to the
county. I hope no one will ima¬
gine for a moment that I would
reflect upon any committee men
of the past, nothing is farther
from my thoughts. The county
has been blessed on that line as
far ns I know. But candidates
grow morn numerous as the jenrs
com« along. When the vHeis
counted one will bo made happy
for each office, many stung and
disappointed,
Therefore, in my opinion, the
members of the coming commit¬
tee should he Composed of our
most conservative, strongest and
best men from all sections of the
county. Mer whose decision will
carry much weight with it. So
turn out to the mass meeting
when it is called and take part in
selecting the committee. Don’t
remain at home and find fault
with what was done and talk
about the clicks in the county,
something! do lot take much
stock in Be there and see that
every tiling is carried on as it
should he.
I hope to be on hand when the
mass meeting is called and hope
to meet a strong representation
from al> sections of the county
and what is done will give satis¬
faction to all. Yours Truly,
Sam Bakron.
