Summer is with us again. The
leafy trees, fresh cool grass and
blooming flowers, the green fields
of waving grain, with the songs
of the birds and insect hum all
tell of June, queen month of
the year. The whole animal and
vegetable kingdoms are rejoicing
in the heyday of life and activity
each of the many individual
forms of organic life eating, drink
mg, increasing and multiplying
its kind and storing up energy
for the days of winter, inactively
to come.
Liberty school closed on May
25th. Miss Lillie Clay, the teach¬
er, complimented her pupils with
a picnic on the Ocmulgee river
near Dames. The place was an
ideal one for a picnic and al¬
though the early morning was
somewhat, misty, yet when mid¬
day came the sun was near the
meridian and all the sky above
was beautifully blue. Young and
old enjoyed the string music,
boat riding and most of all the
strolls up and down the winding
valley of the river, viewing the
beautiful scenery. At twelve
o’clock the crowd repaired under
the beautiful trees where a sump¬
tuous dinner was served. In the
afternoon the crowd began to
couple off, each seeking to find
the most beautiful nook,
to, ofjoourse, play at “Cupid’s
darts”. The merry laughter of
the children could be heard far
and near, the little girls with
their swings, ropes and hoops,
and the boys with ball and bat
were out on the baseball ground.
About four o’clock the camera
was brought out and photos of
the merry crowd were taken.

Mary had a little lamb. it’s
fleece was white as snow it stray¬
ed away one day, where lambs
should never go. And Mary sat
her quickly down and tears
streamed from her eyes ; and she
never found the lamb because she
did not advertise. And Mary had
a brother John who kept a village
store; he sat him dow n and smok¬
ed a pipe, and watched the open
door. And as the people passed
along and did not stop to buy,
John still sat and smoked his
pipe and blinked his sleepy eyes.
And as the sheriff closed him out
but still he lingered near, and
Mary came to drop with him a
sympathetic tear. How is it, sis
ter can you tell why other mer¬
chants.^ here, sell all their
goods so readily and thrive from
year to year. Remembering her
own bad luck the little maid re¬
plies: “These other fellows get
there, John, be ause they adver¬
tise.”
