been visiting relatives and friends

Wess Massey, who has been
confined in jail for several days
for fighting, was released last
Monday upon payment of seven
dollars and fifty cents fine.
Rich Isbell, one of Franklin's
successful business men, of Tabor,
was in town "Wednesday loosing
for some real estate. We hope
Mr. Isbell will find something to
suit him and that he will soon be¬
come a resident of our city.
A match game of ball was
played in Lavonia last Saturday
between Ashland and Lavonia.
The score at the close of the
eighth inning was five and five,
at wa3 so dark that the game could
not be finished. It was one of the
best games ever witnessed there.
II. D. Atkinson, who did the
brick and wood work on tHe new
jail, left Thursday with his family
for Bennetsville, S. C., where he
has another big contract. Mr.
Atkinson and wife have ipade
many friends here who regretted
to see them leave.
Hart Endorses Cobb.
In a democratic mass
held in Hartwell last week, a
olution was introduced by Hon.
A. G. AfcCurry and seconded by
Col. Skelton, endorsing the
dacy of Mr. W. TI. Cobb, the
ocratic nominee of Franklin coun
ty for State Senator from the 31st
district, which was carried
mously. Mr. Cobb was

J. Adolpb Manley, accompanied
by his two sons, Boyd and Julius,
is visiting relatives in this commu¬
nity.
Miss Lillian Manley, who has
charge of the school at this place,
is teaching one of the most flour¬
ishing schools in the county. Suc¬

Miss Mamie] Burruss, who has
been on a two weeks’ visit to Miss
Sallie Veal, of Franklm Springs,
..has returned homo accompanied
by her friend, Miss Yeal, who will
be her guest for some time.
Rev. T. W. Jordan, of Texas,
has just closed a glorious meeting
at Middle River church. There
have been many accessions to the
church, and the church greatly
revived. Rev. Jordan is a man of
greet magnetism and draws great
crowds wherever he goes. His
heart being touched with fire from
off the altar of God’s love, his
words meet a responsive chord in
hearts, inspiring them with more
love for Jesus and for one another.
He leaves for his home in Texas
in a few days.
