ed here Tuesday, besides a large
number of yisitors from a distance.
D. A. Thornton, a popular and
well known insurance agent, of
Hartwell, is in town talking up
business for the Prudential Life
Insurance Co.
Wc publish in this issue a peti¬
tion for a charter for the Garland
ville Gin Co., a new company gin
which has recently been erected
at Garlandvilie.
The excursion run from Elber-
ton to Atlanta - by D. A. Baker,
was a grand success. The cars
were all crowded before they
reached Toccoa.
All the candidates in Franklin
county, both democrats and popu¬
list, were in town Tuesday look¬
ing after the pleasure of their
many friends.
A. N. King will have his tele¬
phone line from here to Toccoa
completed in a short time. It will
be quite a convenience to parties
here as well as to those all along
the road.
The second base ball nine of
Carnesville crossed bats with the
Garlandvilie team last Saturday
afternoon. .Only two innings
were played on account of the
rain. The score stood one and one.
A large crowd was expected
here Tuesday and the people of
Carnesville and vicinity were pre¬
pared to take care of them all so
far as dinner was concerned. If
any one failed to get dinner it was
their fault as it waS here for them
in abundance.
We understand that D. A. Ba¬
ker and other parties, of Boyston,
have purchased the telephone litfe
from this place to Cannon and
Boyston, and that it will be put
in first class order in a very short
time. This line gives us connec¬
tion with Elberton and Hartwell,
besides ail tbe other stations on
the Elberton road below Bowers-
ville.
How remarkably strange it is
that some people who are seeking
public patronage In a business
way, are so foolish as to think
that they can talk against their
neighbor’s business and still hold
his trade. Brother, you can’t do
it. Is indeed §urprisinghow narrow
minded you are. You are not
even cunning enough to deceive
a child. <
The roller flour mill which has
lust been completed and put in
operation at Boyston, is getting
all the wheat it can grind and is
giving the customers entire satis¬
faction. Such an industry estab¬
lished at this place would bo doubt
meet with equally as much suc¬
cess, and would prove a profitable
investment for some of our live,
awake business men who have
idle capital.

er more seasonable goods, we will

K. Cannon, J. G. W. Sewell, T. A. Nor-
ria, J. F. Cannon, D. H. Vaughn and J.
D. Sawelt, all of said state and oounty
•howeth:
1st. That they desire to have them-
•elve* and other such persons aa may be
associated with them, incorporated un¬
der the name and style of the Garland*
ville Gin Company.
2nd. The term for which petitioners
usk to be incorporated is twenty years
with the privilege of reuewel at the
end of the time.
3rd. The capital stock of the corpor¬
ation is to be $8500,00 divided into
shares of twenty dollars each. (Peti¬
tioners auk for the privilege of increas¬
ing said capital stock from time to time
not exceeding six thousand dollars.
4th. Nine hundred dollar* of said cap¬
ital stock has already been paid in.
5th. The object of the proposed cor¬
poration is pecuniary profit and gain to
its stockholders. Petitioners propose
to earry on a general ginning business,
ginning and bailing cotton for their pa¬
trons, and to do all usual, necessary and
proper acts which pertain to or may be
connected with the business aforesaid.

Wherefore petitioners pray to be
made a body corporate under the name
and style aforesaid, entitled to the
rights, privilege* and immunities and
subject to the liabilities fixed by law.

The petition of W. P. King, J. H. Sligh,
J. A. MeGsy, J, G. V. Vandiver, G. W.
Broom, G. L. King, D. C. Crsnshew and
>V T. Soieby shows the following feet,
to-wit:
1st. They desire to have themselves

ciated^with them, incorporated nmler
the name and style, of “The Ked Hill
Ginning and Milling Company.”
2nd. That the object of said incorpor¬
ation it the building, equippine, main¬
taining and operating a cotton gin, grist
mill and cotton seed ioil mill for gain
to the stock holders.
3rd, That the principal place of busi¬
ness of said corporation shall be at the
present site of the company's gin near
Bod Hill P. O. in said state andcounty,
and the capital stock of said corporation
shall be six thousand dollars to be is-
s led in shares of the denomination of
twenty dollars each, which amount has
already brer, subscribed, and ten per
ceut of said capital stock having been
already paid in, they ask the privilege
of increasing said eap-'tsl stock, if ds-
s .-ed, to ten thousand dollars.
4th. That the Stock of corporation
shall be transferred only on the books
of the corporation either in person or
by power of attorney, and no'stock hold¬
er shall transfer his or her Stock, if he
or she is fudebted to said corporation as
principal, security or otherwise, until
such indebtedness is paid off and dis¬
charged, and for all such indebtedness,
the corporation shall have a first lien
upon the stock of such stockholder.
5th. That the capital and sur¬
plus of said corporation shall be liable
for the depts of same, and each stock¬
holder in said corporation shall be in¬
dividually liable for debts of the same,
to the amount of his or her unpaid sub¬
scription to the capital stock of said
corporation at any time held by them
respectively, pro-rata, and one not for
another.
0th. That the officers of said corpora¬
tion shall be a president, secretary
and treasurer, and board of directors to
be composed of six of the stockholders
all of said officers to be composed of
stockholders and elected annually by
the stockholders of said corporation,
The officers for the year 1900 and unjij
an annual election shall be held by the
stockholders for the purpose of electing
officers, shall be W. P. King Pres, snd
J. H. Sligh Secry. and Treat, and board
of directors composed of the follwing
stockholders; J. A. MeCay, J. G. Vandi¬
ver, G. W. Broom, G. L. King, D. L.
Crenshaw, and W. T. Soseby: all,of said
officers shall hold their offiee until the
annual election, if the time and place
of meeting for said election, each and
every stockholder shall have written no¬
tice. All the business, of said corpora¬
tion shall be transacted by and with the
consent and approval of said board of
directors.
7th. To this end petitioners de¬
sign the power both to purchase law equi¬ hold
and convey m an 1
ty any estate or interest therein in
any kind of property, either real,
personal or mixed, to sue and be
sued, to plead and be impleaded to
to have and use a corporate seal,
to make by laws, rules and regu¬
lations for the government of the
incorporation, its membore and
employees, not inconsistent with
the laws of this state, and to pro¬
vide a penalty for the enforcement
of the same and to have and to
exercise all other rights and pow¬
ers commonly conferred upon like
corporations not inconsistant with
the laws of Georgia and of the
United States.
Wherefore petitioners pray the
granting of au order by the court
