The news of thin disaster was con-
voyed in nn official report made by
General MacArlhtir, received at the
war department Friday morning. l)e-
tails of the affair outside of tlioso con-

from wbat tho commanding general
lias to say that tho entire command
has been either wiped out or captured.
The disaster occurred in the island of
Mariudtiquo, which the war depart-
merit charts show to bo a Rinall island
about three hundred miles south of
