I notice the friends of Col.
George L. Goode are pressing his
name as a suitable man for our
representative. 1 have no fight
to make on Cot. Goode, or any
one else spoken of. I want to put
put forward the name of Rev. J.
E’. Goode, instead of George. Let
us use the Daddy now and the
son later. George is quite voung
and ins father will soon be old.
Rev. Goode was raise I in and

Erect Monument*
Tno Garnesuille chapter of The
United Daughters uf the Confed¬
eracy is preparing for a campaign
fot funds to erect, a monument
on the court house square m
Carnesvilie in memory of the he¬
roes of the Confederacy, The
chapter at Carnesville is young m
months but very active. • The
opening of the chapter was mark
ed with numerous patriotic
speeches and much onthugf
asm. The recent movement to
erect a monument on the court
house square is a laudable one and
one* which means much for the
looal chapter at Carnesville.
A plan in which a campaign for
money will be waged is from sale
of flags. 2000 flags have been so
cured by the Curnesville ctiapte’
and these w II be s ; !<l at the sin i i
sum of ten cents each. It is ex
particularly to sell these
flags to the sell ml children of
Franklin ciuntv. The flags
would be appropriate mementoes
for the students’and the proceeds
of the sale would help raiteriaiiy
m erecting the monument.
It -s the plan to unveil the
tnonument on the 14th d iv of
iulv which is the anniversary of
the date, o i which tne first com¬
pany left Franklin county to j >in
the Confederate army. It is hop
ed that the chapiter-in Carnes¬
ville will receive co operation in
this work and that the plans of
the chapter can Ti* carried out.
Tne members are engaged in a
noble work and slfpuld receive aid
and encouragement- -- I lines.
