No government can be
and prosperous or republican in
principle and form, that does not
forster and encourage the ownership
of a home by the laboring class.
If the Democratic State conven¬
tion was intended to benefit the far¬
mers, half the delogation would have
been farmers. Open your eyes far¬
mers and even the straws will show
you which way the wind blows.

The rairoads clear about three
hundred million dollars a year; that,
with a two hundred million tax on
incomes ought to run the govern¬
ment, and then wc could abolish the
tariff entirely.
Democrats vote to put deserters
on the pension rolls, and yet they
give a “bloody shirt,” howl about
paying back to the honest
the mo icy they helped to take from
him autl gave to the bondholder.
The Wiscon-n Farmers’ alii nee

Those Democrats wlm oppose the
land plank of the People's party

not.
Word comes from the state of
Washington that the St. Louis plat¬

great pitch of enthusiasm. There
are counties in that state, so a cor¬

parties will not get 25 votes between
them.—New Nation.

Franklin county, is in full operation |
and those who enjoy that kind
grist will be highly entertained
attending the democratic, club |
throughout the county.
The Democrats appointed last
night for the purp< MO
a club at thi;'place. A
d of about 70 people gathered
the court house and were ad-
by Messrs. L. J. McConnell,
»• Kemp.
As the speakers didn’t have any
plat form of their own to
... the , people, , they , took ,
*
the people s platform i an , l such , a
tirade ai ridicule, slander . and , .
representation ot . the , people , and
thoir platform, we never heard
lore.
.Mr. McConnell’s speech reminded
us of one kind preaching that
never thought done any permanent
good, and that is trying to scare sin-
tiers into heaven by portraying the 1
horrors of hell. If the glory of
heaven will not attract them, the!
fear of hell is not likely to deter, or
save them from their evil course. If
p, ( , Democratic party has no beauties
, ir \ irtn.*;-'. to attract the people,
display of the imaginary horrors of
the people’s platform will not carry
the democratic paty to victory. ■ |
When Mr. McConnell closed hr-'
speech the Hollowing liull oi Frm.k
dn county Democracy arose with a
snort and a roar, and began to paw
the floor; daw the air; resurrect
Moses and Joshua and pity and wet*])
over Jerusalem. Mr. Kemp is the
funny orator of Franklin, ami we '
are very sorry that wo were not
sufficiently faiuilli.ir with his voice
to understand and appreciate all oi
his jokes. We understand there!
were AG names enrolled, seveial oi
them were handed in, the parties not
being present. It is strange that as
honorable and intelligent gentlemen
as Messrs. Kemp ami McConnell,
will run the tearful risk of binding
themselves to party without a plat-
lorm, and abide by platform that is
not yet in existence, and will not be
until the Chicago Convention meets
in June.
That Taceoa Meeting.
To read the Toccoa News without
sober second thought, one might
conclude that the Democrats had
scored a great victory.
The News reports 150 names
from two districts, pledging them¬
selves to that party. We have
he- n told upon good authority, by
an eye-witness that there were not
over 100 present at the sjieaking,
ami an inspection of the list reveals
the fact that there were not over 75-
names enrolled and many of them

the people; for the party that
catee the great reform movement,
j I am told the man that was called
to the chair, to preside in the
ing, professes to be an avowed Poo
pie’s party man. It is said one of
the speakers in that meeting refered
to the People s party as being a trick
of the republicans to break up the
solid south, ond was getting into its
ranks the poor illiterate pa tch
breeches the country, and this
remaik was so insulting, that many
who had not made up their minds
how they would vote—came out
and declared themselves in favor of
tin'People's party. We find, even
in Toccoa some of the most
incut men, while they are going on
quietly, are with the people in the
reform movement. The only hope
of the Democratic party is in mis¬
representation, and concealing of
facts The people have awoke to a
sense of their condition, and they
will not be lured, oft lay threats or
promises. According to the rota-
tion system, it is llebcrshaiu’s time
to furnish the next senator, and if
they will put out a man that is in
accord with the demands of the re-
form party, Franklin county will
swing to him and give him a
majority.
