HARTWELL,
A Busy Little City

got the right kind of men. Hartwell
dragged along several scars, not dy-

until one morning in 1874, four men
put $2,000 together and bought a
steam saw mill and set it up in town;
then Hartwell awoke and stirred her¬

atul the citizens of Hartwell and
and Hart county laid off their coats
and built a railroad. Large and coin-
inodious school buildings were in
vogue in some places, so the citizens
of Hartwell not caring to occupy a
back seat, came together again, an<l
now north Georgia has no rival for
the High school building of Hartwell.
Her neat residences, substantial busi-

ion bales of cotton if the people bad
money to buy the goods. ’
We were to btisv to attend court
and had no one to write up the pro-
ccodings. l)r. Glo »er was acquitted
on the charge of murder, but other
charges are pending against him.
Don’t forget that the freo coinage
of silver would add 88 per cent to
tiic price of your cotton, and the dem¬
ocratic party twice refused to pass
the bill.
Kven in the once grand old empire
state of Georgia, the Amencan citizen
is denied the right of freo speech.
Even in the quiet staid old county
of Franklin, a peaeable citizen is
threatened for daring to utter bis
honest convictions of right.
The People’s party will have to
petition for Federal supervisors and
marshals before they can ever get a
free ballot and fair count. What a
sad spectacle! that the American cit¬
izen cannot have free speech or a
free ballot without an armed guard.
