THE YOUTH AM* THE SONG HE
SUNG.
i.
’Taras a beautiful song that I heard last
night
From a youth near Ids lady's bower ;
The fair moon was up high in the cloud
less sky,
And it was tiie midnight hour.
Oh! this gallant, sweet girls, was quite
handsome, I ween,
And in years was exceedingly young . ’
His H form mould— was, in sooth, of the shapeliest
Now I’ll tell yon the song that ho sung.
U.
Oh. sweet music, sweet music,
Hatha charming control,
And it ever goes down
In the depths of my soul!
In the eve ’tis a joy
Its s^ft echo to lnar,
As it floats, as it doats,
On the waves of the air
HI.
Oh, 1 lov tin -west lute,
And the te'iite. , -t..ned harp,
And tli ure with its whistle
So shrill and so sharp ;
And the gentle guitar,
With its musical strings,
Is gvcUanting, indeed,
‘./hen a voice with it sings.
IV.
lint there’s music, by far,
That’s much sweeter tiutu this.
Vet my words can not, tell
Of its charms or its Biiss :
Oh ! it goes to the soul
With a ravi hing tifl'if!,
And it conquers ^ Tear -.
And the mitt l,-Cad the will.
V.
With one sorrowful t
It can make the lie;
With one whirptuiUf,'
It can make the luj
Oh, this must# so so A: ,
Like the coo of Uni dove.
Is tli,' ■. iun;l of the voice'
Of the otic whom we love !
