The sweeping victory of the demo¬
crats in Ohio is a strong indication in
their favor in the elections in 1881.
The success of the Democratic party
in the recent election in Ohio is con¬

1884.

The decision of the United States

the most important decision that tlie

Thf Omaha Indians have a curious
custom. When the father dies the
mother loses all rights in the children.
Every child, unless of very lender age,
is separated from the mother and will
go into the family of some one of the
father's relatives, and may be claimed
as bis own by the male head of the
family. This separatien of the mother
and her offspring is permanent.
