Paper World.
The Southern States now make paper
as follows, the facts being taken from
“The Paper Mills Directory of the
World Florida has a mill at Fer
rtandina, using palm libre; Georgia has
nine mills, at Athens, Atlanta, Augus¬
ta, Bowen'ille, Conyers, Marietta, and
Savannah, making about thirteen and
a half tons of book, news, manila and
wrapping papers in twenty-four f ours;
Louisana has a mill at New Orleans,
making libre from bagasse; Maryland s
mills are at Beckleysviile, Bentley
Springs. Ohestertown, Easton, Elkton,
Ellicot City, Fairhill, Freeland, Grave
Run, Hagerstown, Henryton. Hucks
per Mills, Reistemtown, Rising Sun and
White Hall, thirty-two mills, making
about sixty-five tons.mostly news,man¬
ila. wrapping, board aud rooting papers,
and a little book paper; North Carolina
has a mill at Neuse, making nearly two
tons of book, news and wrapping pa
pers, and tin ee mills at Chavlotte.mak
ing half a ton of writing,1,600 pounds book! ,
of printing and 3,500 pounds of
and colored papers; two miles in South
Carolina are at Bath and Greenville,
making three tons of news manila and
wrapping, and two tons of wood pulp;
Tennessee has four mills, at Knoxville,
Manchester and Nashville making nine
tons of booK, news and manila, papers
ana some blotting paper, in Virginia J
are three mills at Richmond and one at
Winchester, making twelve tons of tis¬
sue, book, news, blotting and wrapping
papers and boards, while West Virgin¬
ia closes the list with eight mills, mak¬
ing over thirty tons of wrapping, man¬ and
ila news and tea papers, boards
chemical fibre. In ail there are sixty
five mills, making about 145 tons of
paper,boards and pulp. Maryland takes
the lead, then follow West Virginia,
Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, etc.
