Our young men arid boys are sadly in
need of innocent amusement, and there
is no amusement so innocent and profit¬

— While the walking mania has
seized upon several of our citizens, au
epidemic of a much more serious na¬
ture, is very prevalent in town. Each
season has its charms and the people
are not disposed to let them pass by one
i,y one without sharing their joys. A
party of gentlemen, went on a Ashing
excursion, it being the second time, to
Little river last week and the finny
tribe was greatly diminished. They
caught 26 pounds of fish, among them
were several large trout, the largest
weighed 4 pounds and was 5 inches in
breadth and 29J inches in length. The
same party went again yesterday and
caught 21 pounds.
—Col. A. VV. Mershon, of Sharon,
has many friends in Taliaferro county,
wh > would be glad to honor him as was
evidenced at the mass meeting here on
last Saturday. He was a candidate
for the non illation for representative
for this county and not receiving a ma¬
jority of the voles cast, made a motion
that the nomination of Mr. Prior G.
Veazey, another noble and true citizen
( ,f the county, who received a majority
of the votes he made unanimous. Col.
Metshon’s conduct at the meeting will
long be remembered by Ins opponent
and all other true Democrats in the
county and ... the day is not , far distant, , ,
when the people ol ialiaferio will con¬
fer upon him the honor he so justly de
serves.

I have no faith in any system of Trade,
that is suggestive of large nrofits, for the
reason that is palpable to the dullest per¬
ception the people will not abide by it.
Every man and woman is looking for the
store where the most merchandise can be
bought f<T the least money, and because
the shopper is rich, “lay n.> t the flattering
unction unto your soul” that he or she will
be willing to pay one penny more for that
reason. All ^tradesmen know that quite
the reverse is true. The fact is the word

where such a system is carried out that

advertising, for the best advertising me,

doing so. I supply a gnat part of the
