Atlanta Sunday Constitution.
Its most astonishing how our folks
are getting along. Here is this Dig
frolic at Rome—this military fandango
that makes a man feel like everybody
flown south was rich and brave, and
lust as live have another light as not.
Our people are getting on a swell. They
are feeling their oats and getting brag
gish. If they cant ride much they can
out walk all creation, and are betting
on that. It looks like the old Roman
■spirit of sports and games is coining
over our people, and I reckon it is a
sign that our boys are prospering. On
ly a few days ago we went about like a
dog who dideut have spirit enough to
delate wag his tail. The whole country was

These very chaps who are parading

them them, little li Die hovs boys when when the war var broke b e
out, and they lieyei knew .anythin,, but
trouble and hardship in their youth.
They had to eat roots and drink branch
water and go bare headed and bare
booted. and wear one-gallus breeches
and sleep three or four ia a bed, and go
hungry half the time. They never saw
« circus for ten years, nor rode on the
tars, and all the senooimg they got was
in the cornfield. But them soit have
tome to the front—they have—ancl lots
of them have got rich. I was sitting
down talking to Rhode Hill about it the
other day, and Rhode said that mighty
nigh every rich man in Atlanta was
raised a poor boy. ‘‘There goes one
now,” said he, “who is worth a hun

He used to plow barefooted over tread

worth a hundred and fifty thousand,
and he come from this same barefooted
stock. 1 tell you what’s a fact, Hill,
mighty nigh all these Peachtree nabobs
are the same sort of folks. They hav*

these poor groundhog boys stumps his
