Public Speaking,
The people of Taliaferro and adjoin¬
ing counties are respectfully invited
to come to Crawfordville next Tues¬
day, June 22nd, to hear the masterly
address of the Hon. A. O. Bacon, of
Bibb. He will speak here ill tho f ore
noon and we ask that everydody turn
out to hear him, lie will give you
his views of the Gubernatorial cam¬
paign in an able way without self
praise or the use of slanderous terms.
A mean Negro.
The negro hoy, McHenry Deavors,
who stole Mr. T. E. Bristow’s mare
some time ago and was jailed here for
the same offense, was released by Mr.
Omer Taylor’s going on his bond of
§15.00. Ho was out in the country
on Mr. Taylor’s place at work, and
on last Saturday he left. Messrs. W •
I. and Ofner Taylor went down to
Norwood, the negro’s former home,
last Wednesday but they did not find
him.
The Bacon Club.
The friends to Major A, O. B icon
met at the court-house here last Fri¬
day night and organized in a body
known as the Bacon Club, for the pur
pose of using the best and most honor
able means of supporting their can
uidate for governor. The meeting
was a success and the Club started
ng -rigor— a large" number put
down their names the first night. Dr.
S. J. Farmer, was unanimously elected
president of the Club, with Col. W. O.
Mitchell as vice-pesedent, W. O. Hol¬
den, secretary, and W. C. Bristow,
treasurer. Every Bacon man in the
county is respectfully invited to attend
the meetings every Friday night and to
bring along all of liis friends who are
in sympathy with the lion. A. O. Ba

Last Monday evening, according to
engagement, the above gentleman de¬
livered a most able speech in the court¬
house here to a number of citizens.
Mr. Tutt is in favor of honest gover
rnent and is in favor of putting the
earn! idate at our mast head who has a
clean record of twelve years standing.
He spoke in mild and eonvencing
terms of tho charges made against
Gen. Gordon and showed up some of
the connections of tho Atlanta com¬
bination. The weather was very bad
on the night of his speech and only a
small house turned out; but he gave
the few some sound arguments to go
home sleep and over. Mr. Tutt is a splen
did speaker and our people ale always
glad to welcome him in our midst.
