ediyiitrue. There m seldom a fail¬
ure in the winter oats while in great
many eases the spring oats are not
worth the trouble of cutting them.
The best time for sowing winter oafs
is from the middle of September to
the 1st of October. Rut a diffencee
of a week or two will sc arcely vary the
remit. They may be sown now or a
week or two later. Rome farmers say
that the same land may be sown with
winter oats year after year and the
land will actually get better all the
time. With winter oats the barns can
lie kept full all the time from the same
and with a constant improvement of
the land’ The oats arc ready for use
much sooner than the spring oats and
are fuller and more heavily grained.
In adopting this plan while a test
might be made by sowing now the
proper time would be to sow according
to seasons at any time between the,
20th of August and the 15th of Sep¬
tember. That is before the heavy
picking of cotton begins. If tho soil
is rich the middle of September. One
thin g is certain that such a sowing
would make a fine crop of oats on laud
too poor for anything else.

Fall Feeding.
The early part of the fall is the best
time for feeding and fattening stock
for market, and especially so for hogs.
If hogs hayeliad the run of the pastu res
and are in a good thrifty condition by
Sept. 1, corn should be fed night and
morning—not too heavy at first; in ■
erase the quantity gradually. The
cooler weather gives hogs an appetite,
they will take on tat right along, and
they can be ready for market at a
much less cost per pound than if feed
ing is delayed until cold weather rets
in. Hogs that have had the run
the wheat and oat fields, or in the clo
ver pastures, and have also had a good
supply of pure water, are generally in
good order and it does not require
such a large Y 1 amount of feed to
them. , There . . is no waste , of . , feed . in .
keeping up animal heat, which will be
required if tiie fattening is delayed.

out of debt, with a little good stock,
good health, a good wife, and sense

dependent human being in the world
is a former who Is mortgaged, whose
