Thomasville had a very destruc
tive fire one night last week. Half a
block was swept by flames. The
Thomasville Opera House, Palin –
Bro’s carriage shops, the Kentucky
Stables, and other buildings went to
ashes by the conflagration.

The Macon Telegraph, under date

mail delivery for Bibb county is

inspector, Mr. W. B. Gaitree, ar
rived yesterday. Today he will go over
the proposed routes, and will be ac
companied by the committee from
the Chamber of Commerce. t y
President and Mrs. McKinley,
Vice-Pres. Hobart, Postmaster-Gen
erai Emery Smith, Dr. Rixey and
others who were in the presidential
party at Thomasville, have returned
to Washington. The President en
joyed his visit to Georgia evidently,
for in taking leave of Thomasville he
said: “We would rather he coming
:o Thomasville than departing from
it. We have had a most restful and
enjoyable time, and thank yon all
over and over again for your kind
courtesies and your considerate

We heard a gentleman say yes
terday that he believes the people
of Cordele could not live contented
without an occasional sensation.

Capt. G. M. Patterson who re
sides here in Cordele, is teaching
a nourishing school of forty odd
pupils out near Dr. Warren Wil
liams’ place. About 25 of the
pupils in attendance go out from
the city every morning.

for so long allowed the bicyclists
to trespass the law by riding on
the sidewalks, since its more rigid
enforcement of this law several

I was reading an advertisement of
