Two Old People Gone.
Mr. Jos. Bowen died March 8th,
1899, age 81 years. His widow,
Mrs. Easter M. Bowen, died Apr.
12th, one month and four days
later, age 75 years. These two
good old people had been members
of Bethel Baptist church about 60
years. They were consistent in
their Christian life and devoted to
the cause they had espoused, and
enjoyed the consolation of the
Christian hope which grew brighter
and brighter to the day of their
death. Their record as citizens
and neighbors is without a blem
ish. They enjoyed of the all confidence,
love and esteem who knew
them. Mr. Bowen bought and
improved the farm, on which he
died, over 60 years ago, where he
lived and reared a large and family;
now all honorable men women
and doing well in the world.
How sad to give up these “old
land marks” and heroes of the
past. They cleared our lands,
cut our roads, fought our battles
and bequeathed us our homes;
honor to their names; “peace to
their ashes.”
Let us erect a monument to their
memory by improving the inheri
tance, sealing it with honesty, in
dustry ard uprightness, and band
it down to posterity as full and
sacred as when we received it..

A Day in Rlchwood.
A representative of the Senti

and hearing a splendid sermon by
“ ,ev ’ J- I* Oxford, of Atlanta, Ga.
Bro. Oxford who talked o the
children at Sunday-school in the
afternoon, went directly from
™ere to the convict camp and
held services with the convicts,
and a number of visitors also al
tended these services,
Bro. Oxford conducted a series
°f meetings at Ricbwood last year
which resulted in a great revival
ft nd a Missionary Baptist church
was constituted with about fifty
members. But few of these came
f ron \ other churches, but were
baptized upon a profession of
faith - This uew church has wanted
Mr - Oxford for their pastor ever
8 ? ,lce ifc was organized, but he
l lve d so tar , away that he has no u
been serving them until recently,
He now c °mes down and preaches
for them once a month.
Ricbwood church has decided
^9 ^'^d a handsome and connno
d*ous bouse of worship, which
W e y say will be completed within
ninety days,
TheSe people are fortunate in
securing Bro. Oxford for a pastor,
for he is a consecrated Christian
and an energetic worker for the
cause of Christ, and he is fortu

a pleasant place.
We wish this new church and
their pastor much success and hap
