Has the weekly circula tion in Dooly. VOL. 12. THE JOE BROWN HOUSE GONE Many Things of Importance Connected With This Old Belio. ' The old Joseph E. Brown house is being torn down. This old relic of the late war is passing out of existence. It was here that Jos Brown refugeed during the war. It was in this house that all the important state documents were kept for a while for safety. It was here, so it is said, that a large number of legislators, when forced to leave the state capitol, came to confer with the governor. It was the only house in all this section at the time. When Cordele first started, this house was located on corner of 11th avenue and 7th street where the large three-story Suwanee Hotel now stands. The house was then carefully moved to 15th avenue. It is a two-room log house with passage-way be tween, has four small shed rooms with a front and back porch be tween. The land on which this house is located was recently sold and the purchaser, as above stated, is tearing away the building, probably to give room for another and more commodious structure. In the last issue of the Sentinel attention was called to the fact that Cordele was to have a new brick union depot and a new bank ; that while other towns stand still, Cordelo’s steady growth is notice able and attracts attention of the people who come and go. This week we chronicle the fact that Messrs. J. T. Hill and J. G Jones are to erect, jnst across from the Suwanee Hotel and fronting Eleventh avenue, a handsome two-story brick building with granite front, The building is to be 25 feet front by 100 feet back, both floors to contain rooms suitable for business offices. The building will be an ornament to the city and prove attractive to those who desire convenient and commodious offices. Deputy Sheriff Sheppard's Goat. Deputy Sheriff Sheppard was in Cordele Tuesday looking as pleas ant as usual; in fact, as a rule, nothing seems to ruffle the even temper of the deputy sheriff, but on l this trip he was somewhat ruf fled ks he recalled the recent ordi nance enacted by the city council of Vienna, “discriminating in fa vor of hogs, dogs and cows as against goats,” as he expressed it, when it comm to street privileges. The deputy sheriff owns a very fa mous goat, thirteen years eld, named Bill. Bill has been owned by six or eight different families, is weil and favorably known by man' people in Vienna, and has senie like a man. Some six years ago the town council passed an ordinance similar to the one re cently passed against allowing goats on the streets of Vienna, but at that time the council was generous enough to discriminate between goats and allowed Bill street priyileges and he freely walked the streets unmolested. The recent ordinance, however, keeps Bill, as well as other ani mals of his make, off the street of Vienna. This is rather hard on Bill in his ripe old age, and all who heard the deputy sheriff ex plain the situation agreed that he had a right to assail the ordinance which reflected on his famous goat. The* Appetite of a Goat Is envied by all poor dyspeptics whose Stomach and Liver are out of order. All such should know that Dr. King’s New Life Pills, the wonderful Stomach and Liver Remedy, gives digestion a splendid and appe tite, sound a regu lar bodily habit that insures per fect health and great energy. Another great discovery has been made, and that too, by a lady in this country. “Disease fastened its clutches upon her and for seven years she withstood its severest tests, but her vital organs were under mined and death seemed imminent. For three months she coughed in cessantly, and could not sleep. She finally discovered a way bottle to recovery, of Dr. by purchasing of us a Consump King’s and New Discovery much for relieved tion, was so all on taking first dose, that she slept night; and with two bottles, has been absolutely cured. It may be a question whether the editor publicly of a newspaper has^the of right to recommend any the various proprietary medicines which flood the market, yet as a preventive of suffering we feel it a duty to say a good word for Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. We have known and used this medicine in our family for twenty years and have always found it reliable. In many cases a dose of this remedy would save hours of suffering while a physician is awaited. We do not believe in depending implicitly on any medicine for a cure, but we do believe that if a bottle of Chamber lain’s Diarrhoea Remedy were kept on hand and administered at the in ception of an attack much suffering might be avoided and in very many cases the presence of a physician would not be required. At least this has been our experience during the past twenty years. For sale by J. B Byals – Co., druggists J ARABI NKW8Y NOTK9. Mrs. 8. T. Pate ie very ill. Mr. Lum McKenzie was in town Monday. Wright is jubilant over the arrival of a brand-new boy at his home on last Saturday. The Singing Class at Lloyd has finished a ten days’ term of in structions, conducted by Prof. D, J. Christmas. At the close last Saturday some very fine music was rendered. The patrons are so much pleased with the work of Prof. Christmas it was decided to have another ten days term; the second term commencing on Wed nesday, this week. This is a compliment to the teacher, as he came here virtually a stranger two weeks ago. A number from our Singing Class went over to Pinia Sunday and rendered some very nice music in the afternoon, with the assistance of the Pinia class— that class has been under the tutorship of Prof. King, of Pitts. Wr. Willis Johnson, Sr., attend ed a big meeting at Ebenezer church near Coney last Sunday. The Class wishes to express their heartiest appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Warren Musslewhite for the hospitable way they were enter tained at Mr. Musslewhite's home at Pinia at noon Sunday, and for the very fine dinner they par took of.
