The prediction of The Sentinel last April that a suit of clothes could be promised, without fear of loss, if the Cordele Daily Hor net could be found living April 1, 1900, has been demonstrated, even six months before that date. Messrs. R. S. Burton – Son have purchased the entire printing out fit, will dress the paper in new clothes this morning and run it for the public good. The purchasers are well known in Cordele, where for several years they published the Cordelean, which was ever found pulling for every legitimate Cordele enter prise, and for the best interest of their town. They are experienced newspaper men, and the outfit which has changed hands so often has fallen into hands with a life time experience in newspaper work. The many friends of Messrs. GA., FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 15, 1899. Americus Carnival a Siiecrtw. The carnival in Americus Tuesday and Wednesday of this week proved a success. It is estimated that 10,000 people visited Ameiicns on Tuesday to see the trades display, the beauti ful floats — some of them filled with pretty girls — the fetes in the plaza, consisting of decorated bicycle drills, fancy cake walks, high stilt walking, gnome and fairy drills, etc. South Georgia sent large crowds of visitors, and visitors were there from all over the state. Excellent music was furnished by the Fitzgerald Mili tary Band. In closing the fes tivities of the carnival, a grand masquerade ball was enjoyed at the Hotel Windsor Wednesday night. Some of his friends in Cordele have received invitation to the marriage of Dr. Frederick Sidney Hodges to Miss Harriet Evans, The wedding will occur September 27th inst., at the home of Miss Evans’ parents, at Cheraw, S. C. Dr. Hodges is now doing a lucia tive dental business at Madison, Fla. He was at one time con nected with this paper when it was known as The Cordelean. Ravenel has returned from Warm Springs where she spent the summer. The Citizens Bank will open for business in next few days in First National Bank corner. Mrs. D. Ed Kennedy returned Wednesday from a visit to rela tives in Birmingham, Ala. Miss Edna Killian and Miss Maggie Lee Smith have gone to Milledgeville to enter school. Mr. R. D. Law, the tonsorial artist from Ashburn, was in Cor dele one day this week. J. W. Smith and wife, of Fitz gerald, were here Tuesday and Wednesday with their old friends. Mr. Parker Henderson, manager of the Willcox Lumber Co. at Se ville, was in Cordele last Sunday. You can’t blame the policeman for looking blue and having brass. The revolution of the faithful summer fan must cease to run, giving place to the naturally cool er breezes. A right large number of our citizens attended the Americus Carnival Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The Clegg Grocery Company, with Mr. Perry Clegg as manager, has purchased the wholesale gro eery business of the Americus Grocery Co., (the Cordele branch house) and are now in control. The new building recently con structed for the Whitley Grocery Co. will be occupied by the Armour Wholesale Co., Mr. C. P. Rouse, manager. A Kansas City minister says that' it is a sin to overwork yourself. If that be true, nine-tenths of the country editors are sinners.— Astoria Argus. The Unadilla correspondent the Macon Telegraph of a date, said: would like to see a city court Cordele with militia jurisdiction, as the county court is in a con tinuous session. That would take a part of the business from the county court. We are reliably informed that one day recently, Mrs. J. P. Gil more, whose home is near Unadil la, was watering flowers, lost, her balance while leaning over the balusters of a porch, fell heavily to the ground. Her back was broken, and from the effects of the fall she died. Mr. J. A. Lasseter returned from New York City last. Monday. Mr. Lasseter went to New York to buy fall and winter goods, and as he is an expert in selecting goods that are stylish, those of our people who trade at his store can feel assured that J. A. The clerks employed by our merchants face business these days. Mr. B. H. Palmer has rented the Carson residence on 14th avenue. Mr. Palmer’s sister, Mrs. M. G. Greene, with her daughter and son, Miss Amorettand Master Palmer, arrived in the city Tues day from LaGrange. Mrs. Greene will keep house for her brother.
