Grand Jury l*ri acntmrnta.
The grand jury presentments ap
]H“ar in The Skntjnkl this week re
gardless of the fact thal we get none
of the i«y for publishing the same.
We understand that a number of the
jurors were under the impression
t hat the law fixes the county site jxi
)>or as the proper paper for the pub
lication of the grand jury present
ments This is error. The matter
is discretionery with the grand jury.
This being true simple justice
to all Dooly county papers, so it
seems to us, would be to appropriate
a cetain sum to be divided among all
jiapers publishing the presentments.
This would give wider circulation
and help every paper some.
The Sentinel lias no words
comment, at this time with
to the request, .that Sheriff
insert his legal advertisements in
Progress. Neither have we
criticism at this time for that
for importuning grand jurors
weeks ahead to make the request.
It, is but natural that a paper which
has sucked at the public teat for
years and years should raise objec
fc’on to losing hold to even one di
vision of the public purse, even
though it now derives much pay
from the publication of legal matter
from the ordinary’s office. If we had
worked six woeks to do our neigh
boring paper, in the face of no oppo
sition from that paper, and had ob
tained ft bare majority vote of the
grand jury for a simple request, we
would own up as being disappointed
and meekly yield to the honesty and
integrity of Jake Roberts to conduot
his office as seemeth liest to him and
the county. The Sentinel has pulled
for Dooly county for t welve years, has
a prestige unsurpassed by any other
paper in the county, will continue to
maintain the popularity we have
gained, to serve the people faithfully
and continue to give perfect satisfac
tion as the official organ of Dooly
county.
The grand jury / composed of
was
some «f our best men, and you will
tlnd ithe presentments interesting
reading.
