HON. J. C. TRACY. Will Introduce Two Important Local Bills—What Mr, Tracy 1 Says. 3 As wilLbe seen in a ’‘notice of local legislation” published else where iu the Sentinel, at least two bills will be introduced at this session of the Georgia legis lature which will materially effect Cordele. One ot these is to be entitled “an act to amend an act creating a system of public schools for the city of Cordele, so as to change the manner of electing a board of trustees for the public schools of said city, to define their powers and duties, also to further amend charter of Cordele con cerning election laws, and for other purposes.” It is understood that the object of the bill under this notice will be to have the trustees elected by the people instead of by the trus council. tees subject It to is approval also understood of city to be an object of the bill that in municipal elections the election managers shall withhold certifi cates of election for five days. These are said to be the only changes to be made under this notice to amend the city charter, although under the notice other changes can be incorporated in the bill touching elections. The other bill is to be entitled “an act to establish the city court of Cordele in Dooly county, to de fine its jurisdiction and powers, to provide for the appointment of a judge and solicitor and other officers thereof, and to define their powers and duties; to provide for pleading and practice and mo tions for new trial therein, and writs of errors therefrom, and for other purposes.” The object of this bill is thoroughly stated in the notice. The fact that Cordele furnishes such a large amount of litigation in Dooly county and has to many inside of the Cordele district that • ii eg A W,A i w 0 I\l V' HON. J. C. TRACY. should have the city Practically everybody in it is claimed, favors this and it is freely stated that large majority of the citizens in the county have reached the con that the establishment of court would not only save to Cordele citizens, but that the county treasury would as well by a reduction of WHAT MR. TRACY SAYS. Representative Tracy did not hand the notices to the Sentinel, but they were handed in for pub lication by entirely different par ties. After they were handed in, however, the natural presumption in was that as Mr. Tracy lived Cordele he would be asked to in troduce the bills, and so a repre sentative of the Sentinel called on him to get his views. u Yes, I have been requested to introduce two bills.” said Mr. Tracy. “1 have heard but little as yet in favor of introducing a bill to change the method of elect ing trustees of the Public schools, but if I am convinced of the wisdom of such a change, and convinced that our people want the change, I will take pleasure in introduc ing the bill and push for its pas sage.” reference to amending the “In charter,” he said, “so as to have five days’ intervene before the electiou managers deliver the certificates of election to the suc cessful candidates, I am convinc ed that nearly everybody wishes this change. As many belonging to one political side as those who belong to the other are in favor of this change, and believing that this change meets the approval of practically everybody, I have concluded to introduce a bill to make the change. ’ Mr. Tracy’s attention was also called to the fact that notice was given of intention to introduce a bill asking for a city court for CORDELE. GA., FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, J his Cordele, views and referenci was asked to same. to give in ! “Personally, I am opposed , * too many courts, but I know 0 " e can “? t * et without them, and I . know that a tremen dous amount of litigation Everybody arises here in this district. ‘ in Cordele favors the city court and 1 find that there are a large number of people who live in different sections of Dooly county who have given the city court matter some thought and consid eration who are of the opinion that this court should be estab lished in Cordele. Tin bill should be very broad, and give the very fullest jurisdiction in order that the wisdom of the measure should be fully tested. I believe there exists a large sentiment in the county and an overwhelming sen timent In Cord<-le favorable to the city court, and I am willing to introduce a bill for the couit pro vided the bill drawn gives as full and complete powers as those given to any other city court in this state.’’ So it appears that at least these two measures will be intro duced at this session of the legis lature, and they may go through without opposition, or there may be opposition, but none has yet come to light.
