Ol'Jl VISITORS.
it is needless for the Sentinel to
say flint in behalf of the city
and eiiizens of Cordele, we
welcome the many visitors to our
Carnival. The mayor of our city
lias laid aside his office, so to speak,
the couneilmen have lost sight of
their official capacity, and the police
force will not interfere with your
enjoying t lie complete hospitality,
such as Cordele is able to extend.
Carnivals are good things, if no
other purpose is served than to draw
crowds of people to mix and mingle
together, exchange views and hearty
handshakes ; but Cordele in her first
efforts to hold u Carnival lias gono to
a considerable expense to give you
an absolutely free show, lasting sev
eral hours each day and night, and
one that by far surpasses a show of
smnll proportions.
It is all for our visitors; we turn
all over to them for their pleasure,
we since)ely trust they will enjoy
their visit to Cordele, that every
thing will work together for their
and our good, and lead to a better
and greater Carnival another year.
The Sentinel desires, in the name
of the people, to thank the following
newspapers for kind articles we have
noticed about Cordele and her Car
nival :
Tilton Gazette, Fitzgerald Enter
prise, Fitzgerald Citizen-Leader,
Dooly County News, Vienna Pro

CARES NOTHING FOK COR

The Cordele correspondent to the
Atlanta Constitution, wo know not
who he is, has precious little regard
for his own veracity, and evidently
cares nothing for Cordele, except to
keep up a continual political turmoil
and factional strife.
His vivid imagination and fertile
brain has pictured a lively political
battle in Cordele. If he had said
that Cordele was tired of political
differences, and would probably
unite upon three neutral candidates
for aldermen, or had said, that there
Had been absolutely no talk what
ever a bout the matter, the article
would not be quite so amusing. Fol*
lowing is the article referred to, and
which was clipped from last Satur
day’s issue of the Constitution -.
“The approaching city election to
be held on the first Wednesday in
January, 1900, to elect for a term of
two years three city aldermen, is be
ginning to stir local city politicians.
Already its different sides and fac
tions in city politics are forming
and, as lias been the past history of
Cordele, a lively and battle royal
tight will develop in the election.
The secret order men, known here
as the A. P. A.’s., claim that they
arc still strong enough to carry
everything before them and elect
their men at the January election.
A determined fight will bo made
against the secret order, and if they
win it will be done by a bard tight.”

IN MEM OKI AM. .
Cordele, Ga., Nov., 21,1899.—We
the undersigned committee beg to
submit to Cordelea lodge, No. 296,
the following resolut ions, in memery
of pur brother. Captain Hiram Wil
liams :
On the evening of November 7,
189!), A. L. 6859, at 8 o'clock, p. m.,
our Grand Master above, through His
mysterious mandates, summoned to
His presence the spirit of our friend
and brother, Captain Hiram Wil
liams. The summons was not with
out a forerunner, nor was it without
notice, as brother Williams had long
sinco passed the allotted three seme
and ten of human existence on this
earth, ami being weary of his many
years of labor here, was ready and
willing to obey the call of our Master
above, from labor to eternul refresh
ment.
Brother Williams was born in the
state of South Carolina, October 17,
1815, and was 84 years and 21 days
old. He moved to Georgia in 1840,
while in his young manhood, and
settled ... . , Dooly county where , he
in
spent his useful and active life, being
an active and consistent member of
he Baptist church since A. D. 184!J,
. all ,, times .. during , . ....... his life in
i g a •
Dooly county a public spirit for the
betterment of his county and people,
always taking an active part in every
question arising before his fellow
countrymen, upholding the right
and condemning the wrong at all
times and everywhere he found it.
Having for two terms of the legislat
ure represented Dooly county in that
body, and that in the reconstruction
days of our state when true and
tried men were needed by the people.
Having fulfilled his trust with honor
to himself and profit to his people,
lie retired from the stage of public
life with the plaudits and high es
teem of bis constituency.
Brother Williams was a true, sin
cere and honorable mason, having
been raised to the sublime degree of
a master mason, some time during
A. D. 1863, at Fort Early Lodge, No.
226, and retained his membership in
Fort Early Lodge until May 6th,
1890, when he was admitted to Cor
delia Lodge, No. 296, having been a
master mason for oven thirty-five
years, and active, earnest and true
to every masonic trust and vow.
Brother Williams was indeed a good
and noble man.
Your committee begs to recount
this short history of his life, in
honor to one who was so deserving,
and that the fraternity who come
after us, will know that we, as mas
ter masons, honor these virtues so
possessed by him, and which will
