UOHDKLK’S BILL.
Tho hill now in tho
hands for establishing a city militia
in Oordele that shall liuve u
jurisdiction, should be met with tho
defeat it deserves in the legislature, creation
This bill provides for the
a city court in Oordele with militia
jurisdiction, yet, the funds to carry
on this court are to be drawn from
the county treasury. In other
words, while the people are taxed to
maintain t he county court, this ad
ditional court is to be established,
which will pile up taxes upon them.
YVe do not believe that a city court
in Oordele will bo self-sustaining,
but, in the event it, is to he, why
does the bill provide for the
ment of the sa laries of the officers of
this court from the funds of the en
tire county? Moreover, the clashes
which will be had over the jurisdic and
tion of this court and the county
superior courts, will be a subject of
endless worriment and litigation.
The News does not believe that
this bill in any way will lessen the
expense in carrying on our courts;
but there is every reason to believe
that the expenses will Vie in
creased. Let the people make a
protest to our representatives in At
lanta and the bill will be killed.—
Dooly County News, Unadilla.
The Sentinel had refrained from
discussing this bill, upon die idea
that it would meot with no serious
opposition, and that the people of
the county would rely upon Cordele
doing the right thing in the matter.
Wo had reason to believe, and we
do believe, that the Unadiila corre
spondent to the Macon Telegraph,
who is known to be one of the most
conservative citizens there, express
ed the true sentiments of the people
in that progressive town, when lie
said in an article to the Telegraph,
that Unadilla was willing for Cor
dele to have a city court with city
and district jurisdiction.
Now, as to the reasons urged in
the above article why die bill
“should bo met. with the defeat it
deserves in the legislature,”
To answer these reasons it is not
necessary to refer to the benefits of
this court to Cordele, nor tlio ex
pense saved to Cordeleans by estab
hshing the same, although the ben
ofits to Cordele and the savings in
expense to her, roust correspond*
ingly help the county.
A direct ami sufficient answer to
each and every reason in the article,
and there are but two (“non-self
sustaining” and “clashes over juris-*
diction,”) is the question “could
Cordele, furnishing the largest
amount by far of the litigation,
which costs the county of Dooly
more than any other district in the
county in running the superior court
and paying as she does one-fifth of
the taxes of the entire county, could
she afford, for her own good, (lie
good of the county, to tamper with
such a hill as the News describes?
And yet Cordele’s Board of Trade,
composed of seventy odd business
men, has unanimously endorsed a
bill for the city court in Cordele, and
the Hon. ,T. C. Tracy, Dooly’s rep
resentative from Cordele, has intro
duced tho bill. But, ah! it, is not
such a hill as the News would have
yon believe it is. It provides a $500
salary for a judge and for sixteen ju
rors,against twenty-four in the supe
rior court. This is the expense. The
saving, in jurors alone, would pay
t he salary of the judge. Moreover,
the fines, forfeitures and moneys
arising from the hire of convicts
over and above the actual cost in
each case, will be paid into the treas
ury of the county, which will not
only make the court self-bustain,
ing, but will actually- put into the
treasury of Dooly county a good sum
of money each year.
The hill was not prepared for the
pu pose of interfering with other
oo -ts, nor will it “clash" with any
other courts, hut was prepared for
the sole purpose of protecting Cor
dele at absolutely no expense to the
tax payers. It provides that the
oounty shall be put to no expense
m procuring a suitable place to hold
the court. Upon this short state
ment we are willing to rest the case.
Believing as we do, that this court
< an expense, will
I “clash” =r other courts, but
the oontrary, will prove of great
ellt to Oordele and Dooly county,
insist upon this court which
justly deserves, and of right,
have, and wo believe that the
of the county are now, not only
ing for Cordelo to have tho court,
hut they see the absolute
of it and will insist and are
upon the present bill becoming
law.'
Place an ad in the Sentinel, and
will do the rest

A SURE CURE FOR CROUP.
Twenty-flv<* Yriirn' Ooiihtarit Use
Without a Failure.
The first indication of croup is
hoarseness, and in a child subject
to that disease it may be taken as a
sure sign of the approach of an at
tack. Following this hoarseness is
peculiar rough cough. If Cham
berlain’s Cough Remedy is given as
soon as the child becomes boarse, or
even after thecronpy cough appears,
it will prevent the attack. It is used
in many thousands of homes in this
broad land, and never disappoints
the anxious mothers. We have yet
to learn of a single instance in which
it has not proved effectual. No
other preparation can show such a
record—twenty-five years’ constant
use without a failure. For sale by

A bill is before the legislature to
a city court for Cordele, in

for a similar court. By this means
great inconvenience and expense
could be saved the people of this dis

county, and the legal business of the
district kept at home, where it
would be more appreciated.—-Tif
