My Love is dead. Yet day and night
My Love is ever near :
For this I know by sound and sight,
And. knowing, never fear.
In drops of warm and limpid rain
Ills ghostly kisses come:
He whispers in the rustling grain,
Yet say they, Death Is dumb !
His eyes gaze down, two pitying stars,
Into mine own upraised ;
lie knocks against the unseen bars—
The wood-bird stops, amazed.
And when a gauzy mist uplifts
Betwixt the earth and moon,
TIis own loved form the vapor rifts,
And comes a whisper: “Soon !”
'Soon !”—ah, my Love, 1 tranquil wait
Till death’s dissolvent wine
Shall free my soul to join its mate
Beyond life’s thin sky-line.

Rev. J. R. Fields Dead.
About three o’clock last Sunday
morning, at his home about five miles
southwest of Vienna, Rev. J. R.
Fields, one of the oldest and most
highly respected citizens of Dooly
county passed away. He was 80
years old sometime this month and
had been a minister of the gospel for
over 50 years. His wife, age 70 years,
and several grown children, among
whom is Col. S. R. Fields, of Cor
dele, survive him.
The burrial took place in the Lupo
cemetery, about five miles northeast
of Vienna, Monday afternoon. Rev.
E. S. Atkinson, pastor of the First
Baptist church, of Vienna, made a
few opening remarks, after which
the remains were interred with Ma
sonic honors by members of the
Vienna lodge.

In nemoriam.
Mrs. Emma S. Woodward, wife of
John H. Woodward, was born in
Houston county, Ga. Feb. 6th, 1849,
died of typhoid fever in Dooly coun
ty, Aug. 21st, 1901; was married
Dec. 15th, 1896.
She was a sister of D. L. F. Pea
cock, Mrs. R. L. Barfield and Miss
Ellen Peacock, of Emerich, and Mrs.
B. C. Kendrick, of Henderson, Ga.
She was to her disconsolate hus
band, a fond, faithful and loving
wife, an affectionate and indulgent
step-mother, a devout Christian and
faithful friend; those who knew her !
best, loved her most.
All that loving hands and skilful
physicians could do for her was
faithfully done, but the fell monster
death claimed her as his own. She
died peacefully and serenely, sur
lounded by loved ones.
Our hearts are sad for we miss her
from our mortal sight, but we mourn
not as those who have no hope, she
left an abiding hope and in Heaven
we will soon see her again.

Will call His own to enter in;
’Tis only death divides us.

Perhaps many of the readers of
the Sentinel wonder why there
have been no news items from this
place lately. The reason is your
correspondent has been very sick,
as have also other members of the
family.
There has been a great deal of
sickness in this section, but we are
glad to note that all are now up
again.

he is going to ciy. Perhaps next

on the subject.

You Want the Best Groceries
That you can buy; and I sell the kind you
want. Instead of being a burden it is a delight
for the cook to prepare the goods I sell for the
table. Any of my old customers will tell you
this is a fact.
J. S. Sheppard.
When Prices Are Cut
Wages are often reduced and business demoralized
Fair prices mean prosperity. Your grocery bill
will be more satisfactory if you deal with a grocer
who offers no baits, but charges fair, uniform
prices for all goods. I sell the very best goods
and if you’ll take the time and trouble to look
around you will find my prices just as low as
other grocers.
J. S. Sheppard.
In Memoriam.
God in His wisdom has visited our
home and called from our presence
our darling babe, Lillie B Perry,
born July 15th 1900, died Sept. 9th
1901. She was sick for a long time,
but she died happy. Dr. Howard,
of Arabi, did all he could to aid us,
but God knew best and took her to
her eternal home from whmce she
cannot return, but thank God that I
have the promise that I can go to her.
I’m sure my darling is at rest,
In that supernal land of love ;
At home with Jesus and the blest,
She joins with saints in realms above.
That mortal face I’ll see no more,
While here on earth my feet doth
trod,
But if for Jesus here we live,
We’ll join with her in realms above.
Mother.
