There is talk of teaching a mixed school in this place.- We think* it a good idea, as Hamilton can not support two respectable schools. The Youth’s Debating Society intend having a public debate next Thursday night, to discuss “wom an’s rights. *’ Cotton. —Mr. Story has received at least, 150 hales of cotton up to the present time. How is tiiis for Ham ilton ? —— <* O —— Personal.— Cooper, son of Dr. Mitchell, has been quite sick for some time. We hope lie will soon recov er. EUT" We are in favor of a town marshall, as ladies are driven from their places of business by drunken men. S®”’Thegaroe of “crackloo” has be come quite common in the bar-rooms of our town. ►:£? loutli’s Debating Society meets every Thursday night. Question for debate, “Which has the most influence over man: woman or money?” Affirmative.—L. C. Dogget and V- H. Stanford. Negative.— 1,. A. Beal! and E. C. Murphey. Mr. J. T. Johnson, C. S. C. reports that most of the pro rata of the public school money, has been Paid out. Hamilton has a baby with half of it with a line drawn from the 'interior fontanelle down the face, “ternnm linea*alba to the internal Kialeoli, the half on the right of tills iine is perfectly black.—But that is nothing to a full Democratic delega hon in Congress. £2“ The following distinguished gentlemen are in town; Mr. J. of Columbus, who parts bis hair in the ’niddle. Mr. C. ©f Alabama, who shaves his whiskers in the middle.— hat of that, we have fifty-four Democratic majority in Congress. Tli ere is a gentleman and la dy in town who contemplate matri- because they both love “ta t vts.’ They sav that’s congeniality. ell what if it is, twenty-three •'> a'.os went for Democrats last week. Tim Show. The 0-ami R mian Hippodrome iiuckly A (Jo., Proprietors—has be m for the last two weeks, advertised through the country, to exhibit in Columbus on the 11th inst. \\' c ] iat i hoped Georgia would not he infliett. t ] with shows this winter—indeed we have seen in print, greatly to our satisfaction ton, thatTno show would come within the bounds of the State because of the tax. One ha* broken through however, and we predict in stead of a grand show, it will be a grand humbug, Their very adver tisement contradicts them. It is im possible to transport such an im mense amount of canvass, trappings etc., wild animals and horses every day. A pavilion coveting acres of ground, including a race track half a mile long; it’s a downright lie; they couldn’t afford to pull down and pm up such a concern once a week, and our prediction is confirmed by an ar ticle in a Montgomery paper, jvh'ch said not half advertised, was exhibit ed there. No chariot race, no ele phant race, or ostrich race, or k-'df a Time track';- or hofs'es con taining one hundred, or, monkeys standing on their heads,;* or zebras with a thousand stripes on them, or any such ; in short it was a humbug, or they had saved all for some future occasion. The South has been drained long enough by vankee traps, and we had hoped sincerely, that nothing more of the kind would he allowed to des ecrate Southern soil. It is time for oua people to desist, and we are glad to know but few, or none went from Hamilton. A Snake Stoky,— Here is the lust of snake time; with this ihrillinj sto ry closes the snake season. Al though it lias been some time since r, occurred, the gentleman has just re covered enough to 101 l it. * lie says lie went out to get musca dines. The place is notorious p.s cm abode for large snakes. Remember- ing this he was very cautious lest lie’ might meet one. Coming to a branch I saw on the other side what I supposed to he a log. It was greenish as it was covered with moss. So placing iny stick in ike branch, 1 sprang upon what I supposed to be a log. Oh horror! Imagine mv feelings when 1 saw what it was ! Would yon believe it was a snake? No just’whaf I thought, it was a log. A Novei. Mode or Tit a vei.ino. — We s‘w pi. our streets Wednes day, a negro man whose name we did not learn. He says Lie lives on the S. W. R, R. He uses a crutch under his left shoulder and a. stick iu his right hand; carries himself with a kind of swing. lie is not lmne at all, but uses them as a con venience. lie says he can go seventy five miles a day with hut very little fatigue. . Wo verily believe it if he goes all the way like he went out of town, he went like the d—l. SSP“ We wouldn’t he surprised at any time to hear the name of Wm. Dugas Trammel announced as candi date for President, as he has an nounced it for nearly every other of fice. 32P Some unknown thief made his way into the store of Mr. J. \V. Kimbrough on the 9th inst. The loss is unknown. Maekied. —We forgot to state in our last issue Mr. Jas. Lyons of this place was married on the Ist of No vember, to Miss Roberts of Musco gee county. Death of a Well Known Young Man.—We were quite sorry to hear of the death of one of our former cit izens, Mr. Eugene Kimbrough, son of J. W. Kimbrough. He was clerking for Mr. D. M. Gibson, of Columbus when taken sick, about two xweeks ago, and died in about ten days. lie was a nice young man, and no doubt all bis acquaintances will be sorry to hear of his death. Personal.—We were pleased to see in our office yesterday, M ij. C. B. Lackie, of Columbus, who is stop ping in town a day or two. Lannie Johnson is our local editor for this week. Our Yew Head. —lf our readers like our new head as wcdl as we do, they will think if, quite neat and be coming. In addition to the new head, we have added four columns to the size of the paper, which we trust will be appreciated by our jia trons. ZAj” There are so many of our best citizens candidates for office, that we can hardly decide who to 1 Tote for,, and if it were possible, we i w’ouhl like for them all to be elected. C 5?” Our streets are in a dim : - dated condition. We think thut they should be looked after. l!ie Triumphant Democracy. '' e * lave beleivcu the Dem ocratic party W;l8 dead, or ex en dor mant, lut as kept down by that 1,1 a 'T of political corruption and putresonce, known as the Radical party—by dint of superior numbers, acquired by making voters of ignor a it slaves whom they knew xvould do •is they bid them, overrunning and stuffing our ballot boxes In the South with illegal votes, and by tvramix am! outrage, which their power end position enabled them to porpe tfate, they have kept the Democratic paity back for fourteen long years. Buttlnnks to the Democrats North mid South, we have beat them at last. Twerty-three Suites held elections ■ ast xv?ek, and all, or nearly all, gave a runlet iu favor of Democracy, hven Massachusetts, the hot bed of hadic.ilisn, has elected a Democratic governor, and four congressmen something unheard of before. All this certainly means something. Hie people are tired of such, a bur den ; Relist**, rwiJtiMn, taxisrny, GtafrcSßWittb a -hnv-c- i-Pf leu through of their own weight, ft foul mass,' This patty Was kept in power Tty the people of the North, aided by' the ignorant blacks, and a few mean white men of the South. We are glad however to know that they are beginning to see their wrong, and are returning to a sense of duty, as is evidenced by the slain they' gave the party at the last election. They' are tired of a party who for four years waged a ruthless war, and for nine years since have tyrannised and per petrated outrage alter outrage upon a defenceless people, led by such hell deserving wretches as Stanton, Sew ard, Stevens and Sumner whom we beleive and hope have gone to their reward, and others of their ilk who fire now running' the party. "he Radicals acknowledge their defeat,—its too patent, wo all know it. They ate already setting their traps to reconquer the South, as they say', thank heaven though we are free from their clutches. IV c. expect belter days soon—when the Government gets in the hands of tne sitnon pure Democracy—when wc get that fifty-four majority in the House and trim down the Radical majority in the (Senate to eight, then am] not till then, will wo have what we once boasted of, tile bent Govern ment the world ever saw. Then we "Hlsay, farewafl to kn-k!ux outrngas, ramverr 10 T T. CT; In. J CTTpOTr baggers, and all such vermin. Well we believed/ all this would come; we have always believed the Democratic party would one day l-ise up in her majesty and power, and shake oif this burthen. We have always been comforted with the re flection that, The mills of (>el grind slowly. But they grind exceeding'y small ; Phiiently stands He waiting, With exactness grinds He all. Georgia is Democratic from thirl en to Dili ton. The Democrats huvo everlastingly salted the Radical congressional can didates in this State. That blatant Radical Bvrant in the first —Slippery Dick Whitely in the second, we hope are heat this time beyond a contest. Jack Brown a ground hog notoriety in the third, wo reckon is convinacd by this time that he is not fit for Con gress. Next comes our neighbor Hon. Windmill Dugout Sorrell Top Trammell, whom we are glad to know has concluded to stay at homo, Waverly Hall, instead of going to Washington, and all the other Dis tricts have turned them out to root hog or die. The mills of God grind slowly, etc. Democracy. —We should bo truly thankful for our victory in the 1,-rte election, as it is estimated by shrewd politicians that the Democratic ma jority in the next congress, will be about forty or fifty’. It is truly sairl that “every dog must have his dav,” and we hope that Radicalism, or ras calisru has bad its day, and that it Is notv our tnrrr. Died.— Dr. Wm. M. A. Mitehe-11, of Dadevilie, Ala., died Wednesday morning, Iltli inst., at o’clock. He has been a great sufferer for 1 3 months, with paral.asys of the left side, terminating in general dropsy. The Doctor was a brother of our fellow townsman Dr. Tbos. S. .Mitch ell, and was one of the leading Ph vsY cians and Surgeons of east Ala. TTe was about £5 y ; s. old. So*There was a grand torch-ft g£?t procession-in Columbus on last in on day night. Speedier were delivert-d by Maj. A. E. Calhonn, and others.
