Please answer ibe a hove questions,

• n reply to theseinquiries, tvc -state
tbnt, before and dur'ng the war, we
raised a large number of hogs every
year—pas? h'd as many a hve hun
dred at one time. Our plan was to
60 w rve in the month of September,
or early in October; pasture cattle
on it, in ilik siatcr, and then allow it
to grow tin to seed in the spring.
When the rye was perfectly ripe, and
commenced filling (by winch time
the beard became rolled, so i lifit it
would not injure ibe upper part of
the hog’s month or throat), we turned
the whole herd pou the field. One
Ecre of good rye fid! support ten
hogs for one month, or two for three
months. We also planted ground
peas, both a'oue and in the corn, Kiso
large patches of sweet potatoes.
The-io peas, piud.ars and potatoes
were not gathered, when to be used
for the bog e , but allowed t<> rente n
in ibe field until, in tivn, the bogs
were turned upon them. The flin
ders should Ire the I t. as they f ill
remain longer in the fie'd than ibe
peas or potatoes, v • bout hju ry. W e
have nved ibem in ibis way, as late
as Feb.uavv orMtirch. The potatoes
should be hist, an they foou rot from
frost.
Wo have turned bogs upon the
sweet potatoes, not allowing them to
have water for four or five weeks,
during their stay upon e close potato
patch. . ‘Willi peas or pind.ars, tins
will not do. They must either have
access to a spring or stream, or wafer
must be suppl ed them in sonic oilier
way dnring the litre they are feeding
on pindars and cow peas.
The clover is the hosi grazing pas
ture for the hog. It should be owed
in the month of September on good
land, well pulverized with plow and
Harrow ; and the seed sown at the
rate of six or eight ora to 1
acre, on the laud, ; mat
has passed over if; then, v i,fi nt .vy
roller, mash Uio peed into (be ground.
The sooner it i-i sown in September,
the better for the certainty of ibe
crop. From the month of January
to the month of May, you have a
splendid grazing pasture for hogs or
any other kind of stock.
By’ a rotation of crops in the way
indicated, I ttle or no corn need bo
used to make bacon nnd bird in iho
greatest abundance. Boiled cotton
seed, with turnips and peas, fed to
hogs, is, perhaps, the cheapest and
best food to fatten them, when con
fined to the pen.
Vxluabi.k Receipts. —To remove
fruit stains from napkins, etc,, wet
be spots will) chlorine water.
To fix labels on tin, nso French
polish or a solution of 6hellao in nap
tha or alcohol.
Leather thoroughly saturated with
glycerine will prevent, it is said, the
passage of gasses.
Artificial grapes aro. blown from
melted resin and afterwards ducted
•with a colored powder.
Coal ashes, siftcil very finely, thor
oughly ground, and mixed with oil,
make a good, cheap paint. Any col
oring matter may be added.
Plaster of Paris mixed whit a sat
urated solution of alum, baked in an
oven, pulverized, and lastly mixed
■with water, is excellent cement for
marble.
To ehonize wood, collect lamp
black from a lamp or candlo on a
piece of slate. Scrape off the deposit.
mix with French polish, and apply to
the object in the o o'nary <tny.
Toothache. —A correspondent of
an exchange gives the following sim
ple application for the toothache, on
the principle, if no cure, no charge
for the advice. If any of your read
ers soffer from toothache or neuralgic
affections arising from teeth in any
stage of decay, they may experience
relief, instantaneous and permanent,
by saturating a small hit of clean cm
ton or wool with a strong solution of
ammonia, avii apply it to the affected
tooth. The pleasant cor r.a
duced, often causes a
although a moment before ext;
anguish prevailed. I have used the
remedy for over a year, and 1 have
obtained sufficient proof to warraut
publication.
