Tho Toothache.
A gentleman sirs, after an fieri up
••Excrucia in* pain from toothache, am!
ifiavini* tried in vain to obtain relief:
Betty told me a gentleman had been
'waiting some time in the parlor, who
•wmJ he would not detain me one
miunle. He came —a friend I had
not seen for year*. He sympathized
with me, while I briefly told how
sadly I was afflicted.
“ My dear friend,” said he, ‘ I can
rare yon in ten minutes.'”
“ How ? how ? " I inquired. “Do
it, in pity,”
“Instantly,” said he. “Betty, is
there any alum in the house ?”
“Yes.”
“ Bring it, and some common salt.”
They were produced; my friend
ywlverizcd them, mixed in equal qtian
titles'; then wet a small piece of cot
ton, causing the mixed powders to
adhere, nd placed it in my hollow
tooth.
“There,” said hp, “ if that does not
cure you T will forfeit my head; yon
may toll this in Gath, and publish it,
in Asl-elon; the remedy is infallible.”
Tt was so. I experienced a sensa
tion o r coldness on applying it, which
gradually subsided, and with it tbo
torment of the toothache.—Cinein

PfiP.sKßvnta Eocs.- The Farmer’s
vdeftfe recently offered a prize for
the bst method of keeping eggs over
winter. The first recipe given below
took the prize:
"Whatever excludes the nir prevents
the decay of the egg. What I have
found to he the most gue.cessful meth
od of doing so, is, to place a small
quantity of salt hatter in the pi.lni of
the hTt hand and turn tho egg round
in it, so that every pore oT the shell
is ctora-d; then dry a sufficient quan
tity of bran in an oven (ho sure you
"have tho bran well dried, or it will
•rust). Then pack them with the
small ends down, a layer of bran and
another of eggs, until your box is
full; then plrree h) a cool, dry place.
If done ■when new laid, they wifi re
tain the sweettnflk and curd of anew
laid egg for at Icaßt eight or ton
months. Any oil will do, hut salt
butter never becomes ranoid, and a

Carbon Smotck fob Wounds. — A
correspondent of the Country Gen
tleman says: Take a pan or shovel
with burning coals and oprinkle upon
them common brown sugar, and hold
the wounded part in the smoke. In
a few minutes the pain will be allayed
and recovery proceeds rapidly. In
my own case a rusty nail had made a
bad wound in the bottom of my foot.
The paiu and nervous irritation were
severe. This was all removed by
holding it in the smoke for fifteen
minutes, snd I was able to resume my
reading in comfort. We have often
recommended it to others with like
results. Recently one of my men
had a finger-nail torn out by a pair of
iee-tougs. It became very painful, as
was to be expected. Held in sugar
smoke for twenty minutes, the pain
oessed, and it promises speedy re
covery.

I, Miss Mattie lfincs, Bawenville, Ga, had
been afflicted eight years with dropsy of the
bowels: during that time was tapped eight
times, and each time there were seven gallons
of water extracted, but it would accumulate
again in a few days. I gave up all hope of
getting well for two long years, until last
February, when fortunately I came in con
tact with Dr Fitzgerald’s circular. In that I
found a certificate from Mrs Porter of Jones
boro, whom I knew when she had the dropsy,
and 1 knew she bud got entirely well—but
completely 10-t :&'it of herlher. trier, and
also of thu doctoraflio cured her. I was con
vinced there was sfili ft chance for me. I cor
lesponded with the doctor, and he informed
me there was only one obstacle in the way,
and that was being tapped so often, but said
lie would cure me; but probably it would
take mu h longer than if I was not tapped ;
but to my astonishment he cured nie in the
usual time— three months.
December 1874. Miss Mattie llines.
Miss Mary Gaston, Oolurnhus, Oa, has been
afflicted tor nine months with hemorrhage of
tlie lungs and consumption, and each day
spit at least a pint of matter and blood ; got
very weak, and then called in every doctor
in Columbus, blit derived no relief. Heard
of and applied to Dr M Fitzgerald, who sent
medicines. Commenced mending, and in i.
mouths was cine I sound. Took, tlie small
pox and got well of it. As true as Gospel.

I, Mrs Porter, Jonesboro, Ga, was afflicted
with dropsy two years, and during til it time
applied to several doctors without relief. I
was recommended by a friend (Mr Storey > to
apply to Dr Fitzgerald—he would be certain
to cure me. I took iris advice and went to

me tie would cure mo In three months. He
made hi. word good - lie did so. About eight
gallons of water were taken from me hymen
